Bush Launches Election - Year Tax Cut Drive (NYT-AP)
http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/politics/politics-economy-bush.html

CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - Seizing on trillion-dollar stock market gains as proof the economy is on the right track, President Bush on Saturday launched an election-year drive to make his sweeping tax cuts permanent.

Democratic critics say that would only exacerbate record federal budget deficits expected to top $500 billion this fiscal year alone.

Without mentioning the deficit, Bush warned against calls to ``reverse the course by raising taxes on hard-working Americans.''

``The choice is clear. Tax relief has got this economy going again, and tax relief will keep it moving forward,'' Bush said in his weekly radio address.

In a rare reference to stocks, Bush said: ``Stock market wealth has increased by more than $3 trillion over the past year.''

both will be endless and he doesn't give a damm about body bags or the deficit.

6. I remember hearing "The stock market is NOT the economy"
Yeah yeah I think I heard that over and over for about 5 years, not too long ago either.

The attempt to make tax cuts permanent isn't really that surprising as that is a tried and true method of campaigning.

7. I just can't bring myself to read the whole article
The basic premise is so flawed. And here comes the trillion dollar space race "unifier" that will likely produce nothing but more weaponry and a windfall for those repub contributors.

8. bush* Slams Democratic Hopefuls on Taxes
AP story on Yahoo....

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=3&u=/ap/20040110/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_economy

<We can continue on the path to prosperity and new jobs — a path marked by a pro-growth agenda that has cut taxes on paychecks for 109 million American taxpayers — or we can reverse the course by raising taxes on hardworking Americans," Bush said. "The choice is clear."

Bush's message is certain to preview a central theme of his re-election campaign — that Democrats who opposed his tax cuts actually want to raise taxes. If all of Bush's tax cuts were repealed, rates would rise.>

:puke:

13. Gephardt has been reminding people what the GOP said to Clinton
recalling Dick Armey predicting Clinton's economic plan would lead to a depression, and how not a single repubican voted for it.

He doesn't have to tell people what really happened after the dems pushed it through.

He wants to drown it in the same tub as a shrunken government.

Remeber that asshole Grover has said that "...the happiest day of my life will be when Social Security and Medicare are abolished!"

12. Article yesterday said US deficit was about to bankrupt whole world
economy - and this fool is going to make it bigger? This is going to happen even before we can get him out of the WH. Lord have mercy!!

One of the definitions of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect different results - this will be the FORTH tax cut - with the same results - the cut is not worth the deficit it causes. HELP ...WE NEED HELP!!

17. Do you know what I want to see more than anything in the whole world?
I want to see if he still has his cocky walk when he is leaving the WH because he got voted out and a dem just got voted in.

As far as raising taxes on hard working americans, he should state americans, hard working to find a job.

Keep on cutting those taxes while we are in a constant state of war.

,...politically. Even the staunchest conservatives and life-serving Republicans know that, practically speaking, reasonable taxation is necessary. They also understand that, no politician sells a diamond for a dime, unless it's worth less than a nickel.

<edit for spelling - hopefully *LOL>

27. The tax cuts are set to expire
Bush intentionally set it so that the middle class tax cuts would expire in 2005 so that he could use it as a campaigning platform in an election year. He will not lobby for tax cuts, in which he may extend the middle class tax cuts, but he will probably tack on a bunch of other tax cuts. Then if the Democrats object, he will claim that they want to raise taxes on the middle class.
