Rebels Hit Philippine Power Plant; 7 Die
By OLIVER TEVES, Associated Press Writer

MANILA, Philippines - Three rebels and four soldiers died Saturday when the guerrilla New People's Army attacked a power plant south of the capital, the military said. The attack came days after a rebel official warned of increased attacks to punish the government of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (news - web sites) for its close ties to the United States.

1. News from the Phillipines needs to be read in this context:

2. Why?
Exactly who is the seer of context here? Is there ever a good excuse to spin any facts from fiction?

it's not fiction.

Did you open the link and read the reports? Michael Meiring is not conjecture, and neither is the mutiny of the junior officers. These stories are virtually invisible in the US media, but add considerably to understanding what's happening in the Phillipines and the broader "War on Terror."

As Naomi Klein said in The Guardian:

"Yet the Meiring affair has never been reported in the US press. And the mutinous soldiers' incredible allegations were no more than a one-day story. Maybe it just seemed too outlandish: an out-of-control government fanning the flames of terrorism to pump up its military budget, hold on to power and violate civil liberties. Why would Americans be interested in something like that?"

4. Some of the bombings were done by Arroyo's government
in order to get popular support for her increasingly autocratic regime (she came to power by means of a coup) and her warmongering against the Muslims and the Marxists.
