How to Lose Your Job in Talk Radio - Clear Channel Gags Anti-war Conserv
Clear Channel gags an antiwar conservative.

By Charles Goyette

“Imagine these startling headlines with the nation at war in the Pacific six months after Dec. 7, 1941: “No Signs of Japanese Involvement in Pearl Harbor Attack! Faulty Intelligence Cited; Wolfowitz: Mistakes Were Made.”

Or how about an equally disconcerting World War II headline from the European theater: “German Army Not Found in France, Poland, Admits President; Rumsfeld: ‘Oops!’, Powell Silent; ‘Bring ’Em On,’ Says Defiant FDR.”

Clear Channel Gags an Anti-war Conservative

2. As far as I'm concerned
He's welcome on the radio station where I work...locally owned and operated in Indianapolis. As a left-leaning independent, I can appreciate a conservative with a mind of his own.

12. THX for the site. ieamericaradio.com is going off in mid Feb.
and I have been listening to Thom Hartmann, Peter B. Collins and Mike Malloy daily and they are liberal talk radio, and it will be so depressing for them to leave. They have done so much for liberals.

3. This guy seems to be a TRUE Conservative.
You don't see many of 'em around anymore, which is a pity because they're not that bad.

They are the sort of people you can agree to disagree with; they will debate you without resorting to the bloodthirsty personal attacks that pass for argumentation these days. And when it's over, you can even take 'em around for a pint.

4. I've never hated conservatives

Hell, I love 'em. Balanced budgets, limited government, isolationist foreign policy. Conservative policies are consistent, logical and have a great deal of merit.

Now, REPUBLICAN policies are another matter altogether.

Great for trying to screw working people, elderly and the sick. Their ideals always warm my heart.

6. frick and frack of talk radio.. haha!
Now that's the best description of the Liddy (yes G.Gordon's son) and Hill show that occupies Charles' slot.

I miss Goyette on my way home. Although I don't agree with everything he said, he was and is a very principled conservative and I respect the man.

The two yahoos on now put the "smart in smartass radio" as their promo says... I think it's the "dumbass in dumbass radio".

Good on ya Charles!

7. I guess this lends weight against some luminaries on this board.
Clear Channel is an obviouse menace. Anyone who doubts that the opinions of higher management mold the message mold the message in a company, even one as large as clear channel, should take a look again.

8. How refreshing,...a real life, "human" conservative,...
,...the kind you know and talk to and debate in "real" life instead of those,...faux conservatives that are a complete and utter indignity to humanity.

This guy is great!!! Thanks for the post. It's inspiring.

14. yes indeed, and why aren't we hearing more of this sort of thing?
Any true conservative should be outraged at what * is doing to this country. Where are those brave souls who are truly independent and lovers of the rule of law? Why, with their legendary courage and persistence, are they not leading the fight against The Great Pretender? They must, under the circumstances, or the criminals will not be caught in time, or not be caught at all. I don't like being ruled over by a criminal whose ambition is to be a monarch.

10. sure. and i've little doubt this *real* conservative...
Edited on Sat Jan-10-04 10:08 PM by enki23
is in favor of all sorts of other *real* conservative policies:

sodomy laws. abortion ban. flag burning amendment. anti-union policies. patriot act III (i'm just waiting on this one). cutting putlic school funding. cutting social spending across the board. resuming the production of nuclear arms. decimating environmental protections. allowing loggers to log wherever they can cart the saws. allowing miners to mine wherever they can dig a hole. further deregulation of everything from media to energy to communications to worker protections. let's repeal the minimum wage. let's execute more prisoners. let's increase the penalties for drug-related crimes *again. let's prosecute more people for selling dildos. let's make it acceptable to kick kids out of school for saying "gay." let's put the fundamentalist christian god back in our government, where he belongs.

who actually thinks he's a pretty decent guy, simply because he agrees with them on *one issue?* this issue won't last. there will be other conflicts, other fighting, other fucking wars--america's almost ALWAYS at war--and people will fall on all different sides of them. but fucking "real conservatives" will ALWAYS be "real conservatives." and they'll always be really, really fucking wrong about *almost everything.*

what a bunch of comfortable middle class "so long as it doesn't make *me* feel funny" crap.

16. I sent him an email. You should, too.
Despite whatever disagreements one may have with the man, it is clear from reading his article that he is able to think for himself and disagree with others without vilifying them. That deserves a nod.

There is a difference between Republicans and Conservatives. I know - I have a friend who is a true conservative, and she is nothing like the rightwing nutcases in the media.

At the very least, show a little encouragement for a man who stood up in such a hostile environment. It's a wise investment, and the right thing to do. And I'm saying this as a very left-leaning liberal, probably radical, person.

His email address is charlesgoyette@kfyi.com. Do the right thing and let him know you appreciate his courage (assuming you do, of course).

18. This talk show host learn a lesson that all Conservatives and Liberals
should learn.

Power, the ultimate goal
An unpopular truth

Obscured by a motley crew of seemingly disparate ideologies, the basic political divide is between those who believe that individuals should be free to live and act according to their own judgment (e.g., Jefferson), and those who think that people should be compelled to live according to the judgment of those in charge of the ruling collective or government (e.g., Mussolini). . . .

Superficial differences between and among various ideologies on the basis of the kinds of government intervention they favor, are essentially illusory. All government intervention--foreign, cultural, or economic--involves the use of force to transfer life, liberty or property from some people to others, causing negative consequences for the victimized group, and leading to demands for further intervention to remedy the problems caused by the initial intervention. . . .

Since power is their ultimate premise, conservatives and liberals will logroll over liberty to maintain their power. In the end, we got all the bad stuff even though certain groups paid lip service against each program: Cold War, hot war, war on poverty, drug war. Notice that all these wars were brought to you by a coalition government of liberals and conservatives and featured massive centralized state coercion aimed at preventing Americans from living their lives as they wished. You cannot trust a liberal or a conservative to advance liberty. In the end, they will always pick power over principle and power over you.
