Iran demands Saddam be tried as war criminal
Iran on Sunday demanded that the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, who imposed a destructive war on the Islamic Republic between 1980 and 1988, is tried as a war criminal, IRNA reported from Tehran.

"Saddam, the former president of Iraq, must be tried as a war criminal according to the four Geneva Conventions," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters here at a weekly news briefing.

The four Geneva Conventions of 1949, and their protocols, set forth the 'laws of war', the international humanitarian law that governs the conduct of parties to international conflicts as well as civil wars.

1. In the Hague for crimes against the Iranian people?
PERFECT!

It's George's best possible way of getting rid of the hot potato. Bet he won't have the sense to take it from fear that the Hague is HIS next stop.

But it would make us look like the guardians of law and the protectors of suffering humanity again. We'd only have to lie back and enjoy it.

The Iranians have just offered us a MAJOR out of this mess.

George, you'd be looking like a statesman by November.

Oh, this is going to be funny.

2. Bless them.

The 40+ years of CIA machinations, manipulations, lies, and assissinations need to be publically aired in an international arena.

Unfortunately, I can't imagine the BFEE letting Saddam live to stand public trial.

5. how ironic that Hussein might be brought up under...
...violations of the Geneva Conventions. I wonder if he could share the dock with Bush and his minions? Nah, probably not....

6. typical b*sh dodge: 'the Iraqi people should try him'
when we know full well he will never let that happen. SH will either 'succumb' to the cancer or be declared unfit for trial after being turned into a babbling idiot.

7. Something tells me we are not hearing the whole story here
Seems to me that Iran would be asking for the same charges be brought against Husseins allies and enablers. Namely Reagan, old man Bush, and Rumsfeld. They should be sitting right next to Hussein at the Hague. Wonder if this story is leaving that part out?

8. a Hague trial for Hussein would make it hard to justify not trying

his erstwhile partners.

Iran could just be acting with prudence ;)
