Treasury Secretary Snow Sees Job Growth
Oh!! What a web we weave :eyes:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow said on Sunday that despite disappointing job growth last month the economy is on an upswing that will lead to increased employment.

"I'm confident that this recovery will translate into job creation," Snow said as he also reaffirmed the administration's commitment to cut in half in five years the record federal deficit, which has drawn fire from a number of economic groups.

Snow said the federal budget that President Bush (news - web sites) will soon propose will reflect the administration's vow to reduce the deficit, largely by slowing the growth in spending.

"This is an administration committed to fiscal responsibility," Snow told ABC's "This Week."

3. He's been everywhere the last couple of days, and the message is the same
Snow says make the tax cuts permanent and "reform" the legal system. That, to him, is the solution. This is sheer madness, to think either of those acts will create jobs, and they know it. Raw, dangerous, power-mad ideologues.

4. Who puts stock in what this blind man sees?
How many times has he said he "sees" job growth coming?

What I see is a job-KILLING economic package that makes the rich richer and everyone else suffer.

SHUT YOUR LYIN' PIE-HOLE, SNOW. You're hurtin' my d*mn ears!!!

6. This is an administration committed to fiscal responsibility.
That has to be the funniest thing I have heard all year! I can tell they are committed to fiscal responsibilty. They are going to cut the budget deficit in half and send us to mars and the moon at the same time! This is so funny. Really it's not because they think we are so fucking stupid. They don't even try to tell good lies anymore.

8. George Will actually said something interesting this morning to Snow...
Snow's response concerning the low amount of job creations the past several months is always "we're going through a recovery".

George Will said "We are in the 25th month of recovery of a recession that lasted only 8 months" His point was that saying we're going through a "recovery" is no longer an acceptable excuse.

I thought this was a pretty profound statement. Of course, agreeing with George on something makes me a little sick to my stomach, but it was a great point.

9. George Will: We've had an 8 month recession and a 25 month
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 03:25 PM by cally
recovery, shouldn't we see some job growth by now. Then he asked, maybe we need a payroll tax to stimulate job growth. That was on this morning's "This Week" with George Stephanapolis.

That is a great argument when someone says we have a recovery. Where is it and why isn't it better?

on edit: I didnt see GS's post when I posted. We thought the same way about the statement.

We think making the tax cuts permanent will create more jobs. All signs in the economy are great. We've had so many economic shocks to the economy and  It's not our fault. Spin, spin, spin.

16. Arg!
Then he asked, maybe we need a payroll tax to stimulate job growth.

Uh...what about a payroll tax HOLIDAY? You know, so you and I can spend more of our own money, thus stimulating the economy?

No, wait. That would make too much SENSE, wouldn't it?

George Will is a fucking moron.

21. He also implied that killing Uday & Qusay was good for the economy...
Snow says death of Saddam sons helps economy

The death of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's two sons helps the US economy by removing some uncertainty, Treasury Secretary John Snow said.

Snow was asked by a Fox Television reporter for his reaction to Wall Street's bounce after news of the deaths emerged.

"Well, I think anything that removes uncertainty about the course of progress in Iraq is positive, and that certainly removes some uncertainty," the US economic chief said. ...

"I think we are seeing real good signs that this economy is beginning to take off," he said. "I am confident that the economy is now getting on the right course." ...

24. You should have heard his remarks at the Chamber of Commerce
John Snow recently spoke to the Chamber of Commerce, and it was, to be concise, the usual Bush blather -- make the tax cuts permanent, etc., etc. He seemed to assume that everyone listening to him was a member of the GOP and in the administration's camp.

When Snow came in as Treasury secretary, there was the suggestion that he was closer by no means out of touch with the average working person, despite his huge income. After hearing Snow speak, however, all I could think was that he was just another short-sighted, selfish supply-sider from the Bush camp. Anyone who's calling to make permanent the tax cuts that primarily benefit the rich is no friend of the country OR the working stiff, in my view.

Interestingly, a florist from Philadelphia got up during the Q&A session and asked about corporate mergers and how small businesses are being crushed by the difficulty of competing with such monster-size companies.
