Democratic Rivals Training Sights on Clark
MANCHESTER, N.H. (Reuters) - With most political attention focused on the Democratic presidential contest in Iowa, retired Gen. Wesley Clark (news - web sites) has been quietly on the offensive in recent weeks in the other key early state of New Hampshire. But the counterattack is now well under way.

Clark, an electoral novice who joined the race too late to mount a challenge in Iowa's caucuses on Jan. 19, has put his energy into campaigning for New Hampshire's primary election on Jan. 27 and has been rewarded with second place, behind front-runner Howard Dean (news - web sites), in recent polls in the state.

But his rise is also starting to make him a target for the sort of fire that the other Democratic contenders had previously been reserving for Dean.
