4. Still no real details but Fox News
has a banner up on their website. It was only mentioned very, very briefly on CNN. It sounds like it's an Apache, this time...that's actually a good thing because it means less soldiers.

BAGHDAD — A U.S. Apache helicopter (search) crashed near Habbaniyah (search) on Tuesday, Fox News has confirmed. It was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties, or if the chopper was brought down by enemy fire or not.

That's all they have so far anyway.

Reuters

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A U.S. Apache helicopter crashed west of Baghdad Tuesday but there was no immediate information on why it came down and whether there were any casualties, a U.S. military spokesman said.

The helicopter, which usually carries a crew of two, crashed around 9:30 a.m. (1:30 a.m. EST) near the town of Habbaniya, about 50 miles west of the capital. The area is known for attacks by guerrillas on coalition forces.

Edited on Tue Jan-13-04 05:31 AM by Dookus
the newsbimbo on CNN twice repeated "a blackhawk has gone down", but the accompanying graphic said "Apache".

On edit: now CNN is reporting that nobody's reported what type of helicopter it is, nor how many people were on it.

...can't find mention of this on TV anywhere.

On edit: Yahoo said no one was hurt. This may explain why it's no longer being mentioned.

27. Yes but...
The liar in chief said we were there to protect America, to disarm SH, to secure WMD SH was going to give to al-qaida. How does opening a school in Iraq do these things? It doesn't. It seems as though you agree dumbya is a worthless liar and are pointing out that in your post. Nothing he said has come true regarding reasons to start this war that killed almost 500 service men and women as well as thousands of innocent Iraqis. Let's see you sacrifice your children for functioning sewers in Iraq.

19. People die falling off of step ladders
I find it hard to believe that there can be no injuries from a helicopter crash. Perhaps posters with military experience may have some insight for the rest of us.

24. U.S. Copter Shot Down in Iraq; update (civilians shot)
Winning the hearts and minds...

FALLUJAH, Iraq - An Army Apache attack helicopter was shot down Tuesday, the third downed in less than two weeks, though the crew escaped unharmed. U.S. troops reacting to attacks opened fire and killed four civilians, including a woman and a young boy, in separate incidents, witnesses said.

snip

In the volatile town of Fallujah, north of the capital, hundreds of Iraqis protested in the streets, shouting "Bush, you coward!" after U.S. troops detained a young woman while searching for a Saddam Hussein

snip

Two incidents in Fallujah and Baghdad were the latest in a growing number of cases of civilians being shot by U.S. soldiers.

snip

They identified the dead as Sahar Adnan, a 33-year-old woman shot inside the home of her sister, and Ahmed Naji, 37, who was driving a car. His brother and father were seriously injured, police Capt. Taha al-Falahi said.

snip

In Baghdad the day before, a roadside bomb went off near a U.S. checkpoint, hitting a U.S. Humvee and killing a soldier. Soliders in another Humvee started shooting, hitting a car carrying civilians, said Wijdan Abdel Wahab, a relative of the car's passengers.

snip

"The Americans have ruined an innocent family, children and women," Abdel Wahab said, distraught and weeping at the hospital. "They didn't even bother to look back at them after shooting them."
