RAW RAGE AT BUSH DURING MOVEON.ORG AWARDS; TRANSCRIPT REVEALED
The stars were out in Gotham on Monday night for the latest Bush Bashing Ball.

Followers of MOVEON.ORG gathered to unveil the winner of the website's Bush in 30 Seconds Contest.

But it was the action off the computer screen and on the stage at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom that's caused excitement.

2. Damn! I wish I had been there!
It seems to me like it was quite possibly the greatest moment for liberals since the Paul Wellstone Memorial (not that his death was a great moment, of course, but that the celebration of his life had an incredible effect of reaffirmation for the cause).

6. My two cents
The "f" word is just a word. It can't hurt anybody. It is society that has stigmatized "fuck". Any word in and of itself is just a word. What matters is how a person uses it. The words, "I hate you" can be more foul than, "Oh fuck, I dropped my hammer."

My opinion: Bush has earned his share of "Fuck you!"s. Sometimes the words society considers profane are the only words capable of adequately expressing outrage.

>Much better to align with facts and more creative attempts at being funny without lowering yourself to childish Fwords.<

You remind me of the woman whose husband occupies the seats behind us at University of Washington football games. She once gave a twenty-minute lecture to the seatholder next to her about how "stupid" and "uneducated" those who use obscenities are. I was this close to turning around, looking her in the eye, and loudly saying, "Well, lady, your husband must be a f______g idiot, then."

We'd listened to several years' worth of his creative use of obscenities at that point.

TF43, perhaps you know her?

Why would you care what Drudge considers SHOCKING!? Somehow, I just don't think that those in the ballroom last night gave one thought to Drudge's opinions on the subject. The Republicans are running scared, and this is all they have to hang their hats on.

Julie

13. Welcome to DU, tightFit4Three.
I don't have a problem with the word "fuck" but I would agree that it's not appropriate in a political organization's discourse. It's really a very old word dating back to the 1500's and perhaps even earlier. I actually think that the appeal of the word "fuck" is not in it's meaning but rather in it's sound; quite gutteral and germanic.

But in terms of writing, it really doesn't appear until the 1500's.

39. Are you KIDDING???
Franken's line was FUCKING brilliant!! Both funny and quite possibly true!

Historical note: "fuck" was an artificially coined word, an acronym, as I recall. Something about F--- Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. Somehow, it caught on. Imagine that. It's just a word. Sometimes it's the only word that fits! As Pinkard & Bowden, brilliant social commentators* noted, it is the "universal adjective."

*actually, P&B were a comedy/music act.

43. Actually, no.
The whole "fuck is an acronym" thing is an etymological urban legend. You can check out the details here. A brief excerpt:

Fuck is a very old word, recorded in English since the 15th century (few acronyms predate the 20th century), with cognates in other Germanic languages. The Random House Historical Dictionary of American Slang (Random House, 1994, ISBN 0-394-54427-7) cites Middle Dutch fokken = "to thrust, copulate with"; Norwegian dialect fukka = "to copulate"; and Swedish dialect focka = "to strike, push, copulate" and fock = "penis".

18. really? I found this remark by Cho funny, even WITH the f-word
"I mean, George Bush is not Hitler. He would be if he fu--ing applied himself."

Well said, IMHO. Certainly as dignified as Karl Rove (IIRC) telling his underlings, "We're going to fuck him. Do you hear me? Fuck him," with respect to a political enemy back in the Texas governor days.

Or, we have George W. Bush's infamous, "F--k Saddam! We're taking him out!"

Oooh, does Barbara know you have a dirty mouth, George?

Or, "That's Adam Clymer, major league ---hole from the New York Times."

Gee, very born-again of you, George. If the RNC decides to play the profanity card against MoveOn, I could write the script for a counter-attack myself. Democrats don't have a monopoly on political profanity.

Maybe it is a poor attempt at soliloquy, or colloquy in this case, but it's not like I'm getting paid. Adds just as much to the conversation as anything you've opined.

11. I guess you have little "skin" left there, "tightFit4Three",...
YIKES!!!! *LOL*!!!

Gotta have some tough skin in this world. If you find "bad" words intolerable, you will have a most difficult time of handling the really horrid stuff. Believe me, "words" are nothing compared to the actions of all who will screw you outta' everything including your identity and worth and value.

So, get over the dirty words. They have so little substance in comparison to the very dirty actions by those who are supposed to be serving you and the rest of this country.

41. What the fuck is wrong with saying fuck? ;-)
Using it to refer to the traitors in the White House - "that lying, murderous fucker Cheney", "I hate that fucking coward traitor Bush" - is most definitely called for.

Besides, it's just a word. Heck, the word "Bush" is more of a curse than fuck, these days.

In conclusion, fuck Bush. :)

So we're not supposed to say a negative word about George, the man who is destroying not only our nation, but our planet and is now aiming for the stars?

We should be polite and alarm no one?

Fuck that.

And the Wellstone Memorial was a fucking funeral.

Last night was NOT a funeral.

19. I hope the f word is a fad that will fade, but not because of
our morality preachers - Falwell, Robertson, Jones, Bennett, O'Reilly, Hannity, North, Savage - it should fade someday because it's 'out' not 'in'. But, even thinking it relieves the pressure of anger over their attempt at our ruination and ownership. I bet Rove says it every hour (when Bennett isn't around).

28. For 8 years we had to listen to the vulgar pigboy and other right
wing talk show hosts discuss and discuss and discuss Whitewater, Mena Airport, Vince Foster, Monica Lewinsky, Kathleen Willey, Juanita Broaddrick, the Clinton Chronicles, etc.

Now a couple of motivated democrats decide to use the f-word about their Smirking Chimp and they come back with "Can't we all just get along?"

My answer is that they are scared. Whatever we were saying about them, double or triple the intensity. They aren't used to it. No one ever lost an election solely because of negative campaigning. Since when do we let Republicans decide how we conduct campaigns?

...how people so enamored of right wing perspectives always make such liberal (pun intended) use of the 2nd person plural when sojourning (however briefly) around here? It's always "we" this and "our party" that with these folks.

40. Speaking of profanity, have you listened to Pigboy lately?
I heard him today, and every other word out of the Golden Microphone was "damn" or "hell" or some other 4-letter word, pretty much everything except the F-word. Pretty hypocritical coming from the "role model for the yout' of America."

But then, that shouldn't surprise anyone. Hypocrisy is his middle name.

I'm guessing he's a little tense from the withdrawal symptoms. Or else he's higher than a kite again. Hard to tell.

45. There they go again...
These right wingers can throw anything out and the democrats start running around fighting each other. When will democrats stop worrying about the right wing opinions? Just learn to say to the right wingers, "You don't like it, that's tough" and move on. Stop trying to please everyone, accept democrats for being democrats and screw the right wingers and their white horses they ride in on. We all know right wingers are hypocrites, why allow them to work you up and get internal arguments going?
