Ex-Enron Chief Fastow, Wife OK Guilty Plea

By KRISTEN HAYS, AP Business Writer
HOUSTON - Former Enron finance chief Andrew S. Fastow and his wife have agreed to plead guilty for their roles in a massive accounting scandal that brought down the energy giant in 2001, sources told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said an impasse that erupted last week over a judge's refusal to give Lea Fastow only a five-month prison sentence had been resolved. <snip>

It wasn't immediately clear whether Fastow's negotiated plea involves an agreement to help the government develop cases against Enron's former top executives, Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling. Neither Lay nor Skilling has been charged; both maintain their innocence.<snip>

Sources said her legal team had likely agreed to have Lea Fastow plead guilty, and then await a pre-sentence investigation by federal probation authorities to recommend an appropriate term. <snip>

1. I am completely undecide about this...
On the one hand, they could supply information about Lay and Skilling, and that would be a good thing. On the other hand, once the deal is made, they may either not live long enough to provide any information, or they give false information and get away with it. Just my opinion, but their children should not be even a consideration in this, as they have been brought up in an unhealthy environment from the outset and should be removed permanently.

3. So, what are they getting in the long run for taking the fall?
Sure...they go to jail for a little while...then what? What's their pay-off?

Will Lay or Skilling ever be charged? If not...then justice will never been done.

A long time back DU'ers were saying Fastow will bear the brunt of the crime. ....seems he is...

4. Unfair
If they plead guilty they are admitting they did something wrong. If a mother can be parted from her infant to go risk her life in Iraq, why should they get a deal where the wife gets only 5 months and both sentences are arranged so they will not serve at the same time?

5. They shouldn't get such a deal
and I wonder what more they will be rewarded for taking the fall...
Because I don't see Lay or Skilling going down for this...
