US, Canada to work together to end mad cow beef ban
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin promised on Tuesday to work to reassure consumers that North American beef is safe to eat, as U.S. farmers surveyed by Reuters showed strong support for stricter livestock feed rules to prevent mad cow disease.

Agriculture ministers from Canada, Mexico and the United States will meet this week to discuss mad cow safeguards.

Martin said that restoring beef trade would depend on "science-based solutions" reached by both nations. He did not elaborate.

Bush, a native of the big cattle-producing state of Texas, made it clear that his diet has not changed. "I like to eat beef and will continue eating beef because I believe the food supply is safe," he said.

2. oh I see now that the US has tainted meat
we will work with Canada to rid ourselves of the ban...Screw them. they knew what could cause this disease in the animals and continued to allow it to happen with no regard for the animals or the people who might purchase the meat. The ban is appropriate and should stay in full force. Until the US decides that no one ever should feed a vegetarian animal dead meat by products. Screw them all.
