Ex-President Carter to Offer Support for Dean
Former President Jimmy Carter will offer support for Democratic White House hopeful Howard Dean in a joint appearance in Georgia on the eve of the Iowa caucuses, campaign aides said on Tuesday.
Carter was expected to remain officially neutral, but words of praise could help boost the former Vermont governor's chances when the race turns to the South on Feb. 3.

Dean's campaign headquarters announced later that the Democratic front-runner would leave Iowa to attend services and Sunday school at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia, where Carter worships.

"This event is not expected to be an endorsement event," the written statement said.

Maybe one of the kids there can teach Dean about the books of the Bible so he doesn't have to embarrass himself again.

his favorite book of the New Testement ? The book of Job? But he didn't like the ending he said. That is just plain weird. I guess we are only to hear about Kerry and Clark's misteps on DU. Well, excuuussse me !

Iowa Agriculture Secretary Patty Judge Endorses Kerry
Third Statewide Leader to Back Kerry, Touts Kerry’s Record on Strengthening Family Farms in Iowa

January 14, 2004

For Immediate Release
Des Moines, IA–

John Kerry today received the endorsement of Iowa Agriculture Secretary Patty Judge, the third statewide leader to back Kerry this week. She joins Iowa’s First Lady Christie Vilsack, Attorney General Tom Miller and 27 state legislators who have pledged to caucus for John Kerry next Monday.

Countering negative mail pieces recently sent from Howard Dean’s campaign to Kerry supporters featuring false information about John Kerry’s record on agricultural issues, Patty Judge praised Kerry’s commitment to strengthen family farms.

“John Kerry has been fighting for farmers long before he began running for President. When we were fighting for a better farm bill, John Kerry joined that fight. When we were fighting for fair markets through legislation that would prohibit packer ownership of livestock, John Kerry was there. He supports country of origin labeling, which gives consumers the information they need to make certain the food they feed their families is safe,” said Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Patty Judge at a town hall meeting in the Des Moines....

7. This is silly
I'll say it again, for Dean to fly to Georgia to go to church when he isn't religious and NOT get an endorsement from Carter is just goofy. And Iowans will know it.

Edited on Wed Jan-14-04 02:49 PM by TrueAmerican
Carter had a press conference saying the Dean campaign repeatily asks for this meeting. And Carter further stated he is willing to meet any of the candidates and he pointed out he had already had a visit with General Wesley Clark. He said he was not endorsing Dean or any candidate at this time.

10. Saw it on CNN
the news conference. For some reason the Carter people felt they had to have a news conference to tone down what the Dean people were putting out.

21. lol Who is whining?
Joe Trippi went on CNN yesterday and tried to paint this church-going photo op as an endorsement. Carter has to come out today and make a special announcement to say it specifically is not an endorsement. I'm not whining hon, I'm laughing. Dean is a fool.
