Franken Signs Deal With Progressive Media
"Franken Signs Deal With Progressive Media

"They haven't got a name or a launch date yet, but the entrepreneurs who dream of launching a liberal radio network have just landed themselves a lead man: Comedian and best-selling author Al Franken.

"Progress Media planned to announce Tuesday that it has reached an agreement with Franken to host a live, three-hour daily broadcast that would form the anchor of the programming schedule, according to people familiar with the matter.

"In an interview, Franken said the format of the show was still evolving, but he said he was certain that it wouldn't be akin to that used by his rival Rush Limbaugh, which Franken described as "non-guested confrontation."

Woohoo!!!!! I love Franken.

1. What do people think of this?
Personally, I think talk radio is overemphasized and overrated. AM radio is not where it's at- maybe 40 years ago. It's the last refuge of conservative scoundrels. Far more read newspapers, watch local and network news broadcasts, and news magazines. Pew Research published a study on where people get news- which people should check out.

7. Agree w/you, Printer70
Pew's new findings aren't very hopeful for radio, or any traditional media; in fact, there's a seismic shift underway for the demographic that Franken and Co. wish to reach. This is good: the stranglehold of corporate media on the American imagination is gradually being loosened.

Alas for liberal radio, it's 20 years too late!

8. I'm all for it!
Considering the popularity of Hannity, O'Reilly and Rush on AM radio, I have to believe that Franken would be a hit. Remember, the conservative shows only appeal to half the population. I personally can't wait.

2. Excellent!
I saw Franken on Conan O'Brien earlier this week, and the man has an excellent ability to think quickly and make people laugh at the truth, despite what some could call his, umm, semi-dry delivery. I think humor is one of the most under-used and under-rated weapons in politics today.

4. And certain humors are also acquired tastes,
as most things are.

I used to HATE Conan O'Brien. Now I think he has one of the best shows on TV.

Most things just take some getting used to. The people just have to get used to Al and his style. They'll take a liking to him.

5. Nail #1 in the coffin...
Franken is a DLC Democrat, by his own admission.

9. how is that a nail in the Franken coffin?
Are you saying that makes him some kind of un-democrat? If you want to talk about someone who's out there every day trying to get people to see the evils of repukes, Al's been there. If you want to talk about someone who's out there spreading solid democratic values on every major media outlet, Al's the man. So, what are you saying exactly?

6. This is indeed good news, especially right after the "Ed Schultz" show!
Franken should get a large audience instantly, where it may take Ed Schultz a little longer. I try to listen to Ed on a daily basic. I will listen to Franken.

Great news this morning.
