Gore blasts Bush space plan, says Earth neglected
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N15273051.htm

NEW YORK, Jan 15 (Reuters) - Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore scoffed at President George W. Bush's plan to send astronauts to the moon and Mars and said Bush was a "moral coward" for ignoring global environmental threats.

Speaking at an event sponsored by political advocacy groups MoveOn.org and Environment2004, Gore said Bush's record on the environment routinely puts the wishes of the coal, oil, utility and mining industries ahead of public interests.

"Instead of spending enormous sums of money on an unimaginative and retread effort to make a tiny portion of the moon habitable for a handful of people, we should focus instead on a massive effort to ensure that the Earth is habitable for future generations," Gore said to a cheering Manhattan crowd.

The speech is one of a series Gore, who served two terms as vice president under President Bill Clinton, has made criticizing Bush's handling of the war in Iraq, the economy, and other issues. Gore lost to Bush in the 2000 election after winning the popular vote and has ruled out a rematch in 2004.

2. Gore is right.
I hope Democrats nationwide slap Bush around on this. We have work to do here first before boarding for Mars.

4. Message from the TDL
The Turd Defense League (TDL) has officially denounced any association with George W. Bush. Spokesturd, Tina Turd said in a press conference: "The Turd Defense League does not want any comparison of turds to George W. Bush. Turds have a long histurdy in the world and any association with the likes of Bush are a slap in face to hard working turds of this great country and this planet."

In a related story the Dumb Shit Ass Liberation Front (DASLF) has gone on record to also distance itself with Bush.

5. Thanks President Gore
:)

I am all for space exploration, in fact I want it to happen ASAP. But not as dreamed up by people who could care less about Science and our own planet.

9. Lame plan
Eleven years to return to the moon? That's an insult. Bush's space plan is just campaign fodder.

Gore is right. Where was this guy four years ago?

6. Aha, the Earth is disposable!
Once they've used it up, the uber-rich will toss it away like a tissue! Not to worry-- Mars awaits, if you have the cash!

8. Some people really think so
I actually heard some people say that when we can't live on the Earth anymore, then we can move to Mars.

I feel like I'm living in an insane asylum called Bush's America.

11. Al should go after Bush* for "identity theft"!

Gore's earned the reputation of being well-informed and caring when it comes to the environment. Well, what should Georgie do but put on a forest ranger jacket and go around saying how "when you're a landowner, every day is Earth Day" -- pretending to be all sensitive about taking care of his ranchette. (He even installed the exact same type of heat pump as Gore did in the VP residence, several years earlier.)

Gore brokered the Kyoto Protocol. Georgie wants to eradicate it from history -- even removing America's signature from it. (This is unusual, because for other treaties they have just left the signature on and announced they won't ratify). Bush* wants to replace it with a "voluntary" strategy.

Georgie is doing his song-and-dance about how much he loves the space program. Well, it was Gore who actually came up with the Triana satellite idea ... which promptly got shelved by the Bush White House.

I suspect that Bush* wants people to forget there ever was such a person as Al Gore. He is going to try to take credit for his accomplishments. He even stole the "trifecta" quote -- the war/disaster/national emergency one -- from Gore.

13. Junior and Pickles should be sent into deep outer space.
Other passengers should include: Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condi Rice, Colin Powell, Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz, Karl Rove, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, et.al.

Goodbye and good riddance to one and all! Sayonara!

:hi:
