Zimbabwe deports Mann to E Guinea
Source: bbc news

Zimbabwe has extradited Briton Simon Mann, a leader of alleged mercenaries, to Equatorial Guinea to face coup plot charges, his lawyer says.
The ex-SAS officer was jailed in Zimbabwe on arms charges in 2004, and rearrested after his release last May.

On Wednesday, the High Court turned down an appeal against his extradition - his lawyers had argued he could face torture in Equatorial Guinea.

He was flown out of the country without his legal team's knowledge.

Meanwhile his convicted coup plotting partner Mark Thatcher - son of ex-UK PM - remains coddled in his mom's London house, flanked by the free security she enjoys as an elder statesman, having received a mere rap on the knuckles (£250,000 fine) for his part in the plot.

1. British coup plotter faces torture after 'secret' extradition
Source: Times Online

Simon Mann, the former SAS officer and alleged mastermind of a failed mercenary coup plot has been extradited from Zimbabwe to Equatorial Guinea in a covert operation, according to his lawyer.

The Old Etonian was in the midst of an appeal against the extradition when he was secretly flown to Equatorial Guinea in the dead of night on Wednesday. He may now spend the rest of his life in one of Africa's most brutal prisons.

Mann, 55, was jailed in 2004 for buying a cache of weapons in Harare allegedly en route to oust President Teodoro Obiang Nguema in Malabo. He was said to have been the leader of a private army financed by British backers including Sir Mark Thatcher, the son of former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher.

Jonathan Samkange, Mann’s lawyer said he only discovered that the extradition had taken place when he arrived to lodge the latest round of legal papers before the Zimbabwean supreme court this morning.

2. To quote Mission Impossible
"...will disavow any knowledge of your actions in the event that you or any of your IM Force are to get captured or killed".

(Something like that)

5. Awww ... no tears for the merc?
Methinks one or two old scores may be being settled here ...

Now if only they'd manage to catch Mark Thatcher as well then that
would really be demanding the crocodile tears!
