Sen. John Kerry's Sister Mugged In New York City
Source: wcbstv

NEW YORK (AP) ― A mugger knocked down U.S. Sen. John Kerry's sister and stole her purse in downtown Manhattan.

Police say Margaret Kerry was attacked after leaving a theater in SoHo at about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday. A thief stole her pocketbook, which held about $60 and credit cards. Kerry, 66, suffered a cut to her head.

Police say no suspects have been arrested. Kerry told the New York Post that she didn't get a good look at her attacker.

Kerry, who works for the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, worked on her brother's 2004 presidential campaign.

10. Nice to meet you too
I'm glad to see that people of all views are welcome in your world. Do you own the Democratic point of view?

Didn't think so.

PS What does the amount of time I've been posting here have to do with anything?

9. Probably not
But, let's not act like this was a unique incident. We should be compassionate for all the people that are victims of violence every day. Not just one particular person.

15. Well, no one should be subjected to a mugging, but when someone
ia a relative of someone who is well known it can be beneficial in bringing attention to a serious problem that needs attention. You shouldn't be blase about the fact that "a lot of people get mugged in NYC every day".

23. Personally
I feel worse for this woman http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/m/muggings/index.html, but that's just me...I'd just like to look at this situation realistically.

19. No, we actually don't.
Muggings haven't been common for a very long time.

24. Hmmm
NYC may be the safest of the 10 largest cities, but a crime rate of 1 person out of 37 doesn't make it uncommon. I just want people to have compassion for the majority of society instead of just one person. Simply because someone is famous doesn't mean they should be treated as if they are unique. Crime is bad, no matter who the victim is.

26. Catch A Clue

Lots of people in this country were admitted to facilities for mental helth evaluations in the last few days, and yet it's Brittany Spears who's getting all the headlines. If you're pissed about this, if you think it ought to be different, take it up with your local newspapers, TV stations, or any other outlet that's peddling what passes for journalism these days---famous people get more media attention than non-famous people; it's been that way for the last, oh, I don't know, thousand years or so. Copping an attitude about Senator Kerry's sister on a Democratic forum was bad form on your part....

27. If you don't think this is news, why are you posting?
The headline got you to click on the thread and you felt compelled to post.

If you don't think this is news or have any sympathy for the victim, you don't have to participate. Sounds pretty simple to me.

20. Aw, this happens every 3 minutes in New York.
What's the big deal? It's been a mugger's paradise since Kitty Genovese, and the city will be getting its elected thug, Giuliani, back any day now.
