Congresswoman Falls Ill at Clinton Rally

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- Rep. Nita Lowey was hospitalized in New York City after nearly fainting at a suburban campaign rally for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Lowey, 70, was taken Saturday to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where she was spending the night under observation "as a precautionary measure," Matthew Dennis, the congresswoman's spokesman, told The New York Times for a story posted on its Web site.

"She's awake, she's talking and she seems fine," he said, adding that Lowey has been in good health.

Lowey nearly collapsed at the afternoon rally in White Plains after standing for nearly 90 minutes to deliver a speech in support of Clinton. The New York senator was campaigning in the West ahead of Super Tuesday.

1. I hope she's ok!
Might just have been dehydration or exhaustion. Hope it was nothing cardiac-related.

can cause people to pass out)--this is not a gross post. it happened to me and i ended up in a hospital where i ended up for the next five or six hours as they tried to determine whether or not my faintingness had been cardio related. the doctor then explained what had happened.
in other words, he explained the cause of my faintingness--social correctness vs. bodily need.

8. Short mention from the Huffington Post:
On The Scene At A Hillary Rally
Posted February 2, 2008 | 06:20 PM (EST)

I attended a boisterous rally of Hillary supporters in White Plains today. Hundreds of folks particularly union members who were nurses, teachers and, my favorite, the IUPAT. When the head of the painters union stood to speak he was flanked by about twenty or thirty of this
members, all men in black and gold jackets with like colored signs for Hillary. They looked a little like the Lollipop Guild from the Wizard of Oz all grown up and rooting for Senator Clinton. All the regular dignitaries were there, state senators, county executives, and Congress people including Eliot Engel, John Hall (very tall and bald for an-rocker!) and a real favorite of the crowd, Nita Lowey. The big draws were Kerry Kennedy and Madeleine Albright. But the drama of the afternoon was during Kennedy's talk about her personal experiences with Hillary, there was a great rustle in the midst of the dignitaries then a request for someone to call 911. It turned out that Nita had
fainted! Turned out it had been a long day for the indefatigable Lowey, who was too long on her feet with too little to eat, and then she went down. But, in her trademark cheerful style, strapped to the gurney on the way out she said, "I was overcome by my enthusiasm for Hillary!"

Sounds a lot better now it's known she was talking as she left the place. Hope she'll be O.K. She's a very decent person.

12. Never mind OK.
She's 70 and she fainted. They better not let her out before they check everything.
