On the Democratic side, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton was locked in a tight race across the country with Senator Barack Obama. Mrs. Clinton won her home state of New York, as well as Tennessee, Oklahoma and Massachusetts. Mr. Obama defeated Mrs. Clinton by wide margins in his home state of Illinois and in Georgia, as well as in Delaware.
