Campaigns head to Texas to give state a say
Source: Dallas Morning News

The rollercoaster ride for the Democratic nomination now makes a sharp turn toward Texas as Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama scramble to court voters who haven't cast meaningful presidential primary ballots in a generation.

<snip>

A state that was once considered an afterthought now becomes the biggest prize left in the nominating process and could determine the nominee for Democrats.

"It's really unchartered territory," said Austin media strategist Chuck McDonald, an aide to former Gov. Ann Richards. "For decades, we have had the presumptive nominee come through here and make a victory lap. It was all hugs and kisses, sweetness and warmth."

The customary love fest now gives way to a fierce Democratic battle that could be staged from the skyscrapers of Dallas to the orchards of the Rio Grande Valley. Like Texas itself, the state's Democrats are diverse; about half are black or Hispanic.

3. I hope Hillary swings through San Antonio
and that I can make it to the rally.

I was excited to shake Dr. Dean's hand last time around and take pictures. I still have my "Dean for President" poster.

4. I think Texas will be a narrow, 50-50 vote split.
The demographics don't really favor one candidate over the other.

You heard it here first.

5. Obama got a jump start on her in TX
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 10:42 PM by rainbow4321
I got a call from an Obama campaign/group a few **weeks** ago...haven't gotten one from HRC's camp yet. Me thinks someone in his camp was ahead of the curve and realized Texas would come into play. First time I think that I have EVER got such a call from a Democratic campaign. Ever. Like the OP said, there has always been an "afterthought" kind atmosphere. Wooo--hoooo!! Hey national level Dems, TEXAS DEMOCRATS MATTER.

I remember reading how the Texas Democratic Party never really felt the love ($$$) from the national party over the years. Looks like this may be their wake up call!

7. Well, Hello Friends! Step right in (as I throw open the doors to The Spread)!
Come on in, the waters fine!

Its like having the long-lost cousin over for a visit.

Yup, we Texas Dems are alive and kicking and we got lotsa delegates!

Also, I might mention, when national level Dems stop by, we give them the royal treatment (packed houses and big checks). I've seen more than a few occasions of this myself - probably every single time a national Dem stopped in one of our major cities I wuz there!

:hi:

8. Good god. I live in austin and work down town.
I'm glad I take the bus. Traffic will be murder as one rhetoric spouting politico screws up the daily commute after another in a desperate attempt to gain our undivided attention.

If they stump and I get a chance to ask a question, I will ask one and only one question:

How come you say you are going to help us when you do nothing but screw up our commutes?

OR my other question waiting to be answered clearly by any of them...

When the hell are you going to get us out of this money sucking economy destroying occupation of Iraq????

Sigh, they don't want to hear negative nelly's like me.

They want to hear...

Welcome to texas, y'all, yeee hawwww!!! Why you so good lookin'????

:banghead:
