Clinton camp: Obama will outspend us By JIM KUHNHENN, Associated Press Writer
3 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign, lagging far behind Barack Obama's fundraising this year, expects to be outspent by Obama in upcoming Democratic nominating contests just as it was in Feb. 5 states, her strategists conceded Wednesday.

Officials with both campaigns have said Obama raised $32 million in January and that Clinton raised $13.5 million, a significant gap between the two that allowed Obama to place ads in virtually every Super Tuesday state and to get a head start on advertising in primaries and caucuses over the next week.

In a teleconference with reporters, Clinton chief strategist Mark Penn said Clinton was having a "record day" raising money over the Internet on Wednesday.

"We will have funds to compete," he said, "but we're likely to be outspent again."

Hillary Loaned Her Campaign $5 Million, Spokesperson Confirms
By Greg Sargent - February 6, 2008, 3:30PM

This morning, Mark Halperin floated an intriguing question: Are the Clintons financing Hillary's campaign with their own money?

Now the Clinton campaign has finally answered: Yes, they are. Hillary spokesperson Howard Wolfson sends over the following:

Late last month Senator Clinton loaned her campaign $5 million. The loan illustrates Sen. Clinton’s commitment to this effort and to ensuring that our campaign has the resources it needs to compete and win across this nation. We have had one of our best fundraising efforts ever on the web stoday and our Super Tuesday victories will only help in bringing more support for her candidacy.
The revelation suggests another emerging dynamic in the race: Now that the campaigns are committed to grinding it out for weeks and weeks, perhaps all the way until the convention. the Hillary camp faces the prospect of being dramatically outspent by the Obama campaign, which has enjoyed huge fundraising success.

1. Obama is also outspending, due to the size of venues he needs for his supporters.

Really, can you imagine the price tag of a building that holds 20K people? Huge I'm sure.

8. LOL.. No.
I was just thinking about how cheap it is to rent places that hold 3500 supporters to his 14-20K.

17. Claim of empty seats at Obama rally
A couple days ago, there was a photo being posted on many websites with a claim that there are many empty seats at Obama rallies. It turns out that the photo was taken at a rally scheduled at the last minute in a 20,000 seat arena - in which Obama was never scheduled to attend - and it was during the Super Bowl. Talk about desparate.

I guess it wouldn't have looked as bad to say "Maria Shriver fails to fill 20,000 seat arena."

6. Greatness....

pssst....don't tell anybody in GD-P this...it's supposed to be a MSM LIE

"Obama also has a money advantage because he has raised more money from small donations than Clinton. An analysis by the Campaign Finance Institute, which tracks trends in political money, found that Obama raised about a third of his money in 2007 from donors who gave $200 or less. Only one-third of his money came from donors who have given the legal maximum of $2,300, compared to Clinton who raised about half of her money from "maxed out" donors and only 14 percent from donors of $200 or less."

7. Money is not THAT important, unless you have none at all. I think that as soon as
Obama starts clobbering her with spending, many people will need to protect this poor woman under attack, and she will get some support for just that.

13. One important aspect of this is -
Clinton represents the status quo (Patriots), while Obama represents the little no name people (NY Giants) from following facts:

"An analysis by the Campaign Finance Institute, which tracks trends in political money, found that Obama raised about a third of his money in 2007 from donors who gave $200 or less. Only one-third of his money came from donors who have given the legal maximum of $2,300, compared to Clinton who raised about half of her money from "maxed out" donors and only 14 percent from donors of $200 or less."

14. As I said on another thread...
When she was on The Letterman show, David asked how much her campaigned had raised. Her answer was over 100 million.

This was on Monday night before Super Tuesday.

Check at about 8:10 here:

Where'd that 100 million go?

15. The $5 million loan is a very important item to consider
It indicates not only that her campaign's cash has been depleted... but also that moving forward, $5 million of the dollars donated to the Clinton campaign will simply go to paying back that loan. That's not a big motivator for campaign donations!

16. Obama has raised $5.7 million in last 24 hours.
There was a challenge to Obama's donors to match the $5 million that the Clinton's loaned their campaign. So far, in the 24 hours after the polls were closed, $5.7 million have been donated to Obama. That beats the record 24 hours fundraising that was done last year for Ron Paul.

18. I don't understand the fundraising disparity if she leads in national polls.
She does better with poorer people, but that can't explain it all.

20. A lot of her donors are already tapped out.
They can't donate any more. Obama, on the other hand, appears to have a lot of donors who still have room to give, and also seems to be attracting a lot of new donors. The latter makes sense if you consider his standing in the national polls now vs. three months ago.
