RNC warns Obama: We punch harder than Clinton
Source: Chicago Tribune

The Republican National Committee wants Sen. Barack Obama to know that if he thinks he's seen the epitome of opposition research from the Clinton campaign, he's sorely mistaken.

At his press conference this morning in Chicago before heading back out on the campaign trail, Obama said:

''I have to just respond by saying that the Clinton research operation is about as good as anybody's out there. I assure you that having engaged in a contest against them for the last year that they've pulled out all the stops.”

To which RNC spokesman Alex Conant responded thusly:

"With all due respect to the Clinton 'machine', should Barack Obama win the nomination, I'm sure Republicans will have plenty of arguments to level against the Senate's 'most liberal' member."

I think we'll still find that there are plenty of Scaifes funding oppo research for the GOP, that there are plenty of Drudges who'll spread it around, and plenty of Matthews willing to pimp it hard. Their tricks are dirtier, and they can afford all they want.

21. Agreed
The attacks between Clinton and Obama only lasted about a week before the Clinton's realized it was doing much more harm than good, and it was hardly pulling out all the stops. They are trying to hold the party together by taking the high road, and that is great news for the party but bad news for Clinton.

The Republicans will be relentless and disgusting as usual, but it isn't their year by far, even with their Rovian tricks. The Dems will win with either Obama and his chosen veep that represents change or Clinton with Obama as her veep.

Gosh- we're shaking in our boots now.

I'd like to see the DNC start a national Democratic party unity campaign Right NOW= let's nip this in the bud-- with the following motto: "I'm a Liberal and I'm Proud- care to make something of it?".

And we won't hesitate to use the "I" word (impeach) either- and will continue to use it until we make this happen.

I think they will hype the Rezko trial to the hilt and try tying his name into it as much as possible. BO has gotten off pretty easy on that so far. Clinton hasn't really campaigned dirty.

Even though I want her as the nomination the thought of the RNC's slimy misogynist politics (eg. Roger Stone's pathetic 527) turns my stomach.

. . .advance the agenda of their tiny faction.

They aren't playing "hardball." They are committing crimes. They aren't "playing the game." They are breaking all the rules.

To keep declaring your intent to "play nice" with cheats and bullies is nuts. The ONLY rational response is to accuse them of breaking the rules and demand they be removed from the field. Period.

Like the rest of the deluded and impeachophobic Democratic establishment, Obama is parroting the lunacy that has brought us to this intolerable state. (And BTW, the bullshit that Obama's empty propaganda is inpiring some wave of hope is crap. http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/opinion/la-na-youth5feb05,1,848870.story?ctrack=2&cset=true">Low on hope, but they'll still vote, LA Times, 2-5-08)

To allow Bush and Cheney an honorable exit on January 20, 2009, when they should have been run out of town on a rail years ago, is just too painful. Listening to our so-called "leaders" is becoming too much to bear.

Both Clinton and Obama are stubbornly clinging to the web of delusion that pervades DC and renders our so-called "leaders" impotent. I can't decide whether Obama or Clinton is more "curable."

But if the fury at the the outlaw Republican Party continues to outweigh disdain for the weak Dems and we manage, and we send an "incurable" nominee to the White House, I shudder to contemplate the future.

That the RNC would decide it needed to respond in such a fashion says precisely how much it actually cares for the American people. Recession, prolonged and inconclusive wars, race baiting, discord, division -- those are their fields. It's not as though the 'cans are actually accomplishing anything useful.
