CBS: Texas Gov. Perry Asks Huckabee To Drop Out
Source: KDKA TV

Gov. Rick Perry. R-Texas, who has endorsed John McCain, called Mike Huckabee on Friday asking him to drop out of the race, according to a senior Huckabee campaign aide. Huckabee declined Perry's request.

Huckabee had asked for Perry's support earlier in the election cycle and Perry had said he would support Huckabee if he thought he could win but decided to support Rudy Giuliani instead. When Giuliani dropped out last month, Perry switched his allegiance to McCain.

Huh, huh, suck on it Perry - this is fun watching McCain limping to supposed victory. Romney sure did McCain no favors. Now the RW loonies will give all their votes to Huckster as a protest against McCain.

1. Huckster will stay in
And I love the fact that he is going to screw McCain. I hope they put him on the ticket. That will drive away all the independents!

20. Huckabee cannot win ...

Huckabee cannot win a majority of delegates. But he may be able to stop McCain and force a brokered convention. He will likely be aided by Limbaugh et al.

Even if McCain wins a majority, there is no guarantee that there will be no 3rd party candidate running from the right in a "scorched earth" maneuver. I think conservatives HATE McCain and they are perfectly willing to torpedo him in to flex there muscle in a campaign he is likely to lose ala Bob Dole.

3. The heir apparent
If Jeb is still tainted then no doubt Rick Perry will run next. As for now, well, he wants McCain for the same reason he wanted Giuliani. Anything to guarantee Hillary Clinton wins. Gets confusing. Until you link the dots.

8. Fat chance, like Rachel Maddow said last night Huck's having the time of his life.
He gets to be a player. He's all over the media and in case you haven't noticed he appears to be kicking McCain's ass.

Governor Goodhair's got his knickers in a twist because he's afraid he won't be able to deliver Texas for McCain. There goes his shot at the vice presidency.

11. Yes, it looks like Huck is having a great time. He's riding the wave, as they say.
Good for him. How often does something like this happen in someone's lifetime? He was such a longshot, and he had no money to speak of! He should enjoy it while it lasts, then bow out gracefully.

16. Poor wee little Perry.
He hasn't gotten over the fact that his dream candidate, Giuliani, (and his dream of being VP) fizzled out before it even got started. He's just feels the need to lash out in impotent frustration for all the hopes and dreams he's had dashed before his eyes this year. Rumor has it he even got a gray hair from all the stress.

17. Huckabee ask yourself WWCND???
What Would Chuck Norris Do?

He'd blind gov goodhair with his pearly whites, then give him a roundhouse kick to the side of the face.
Then he'd go after McCain.

All I gotta say is...

Don't be a wussy quitter Huck. Stay the course.

19. Out of curiosity, does anyone know how Huckabee's doing in Washington?
Because I've been using http://news.yahoo.com/election/2008/dashboard/?d=NM since last night and it's been stuck at 87 percent since 1:00 AM.

23. But Huckabee thinks he's got Jesus' endorsement.
Why's he going to care what Perry thinks? Other than Perry actually existing, I suppose, but Huck's a Certified Certifiable Baptist Minister, so he doesn't know any better.

25. What a freakin' bandwagon-jumper
First, remember Perry is a former Democrat who turned Repug just in time to be the corporate-backed candidate to bring down Jim Hightower as Texas Land Commissioner. His allegiance has been to little more than himself for quite a while. But consider how ridiculous he has been regarding his Presidential endorsements. He backed Rudy Giuliani, which seems quite odd for a right-wing Repug like Perry, until you consider that at the time Perry made his endorsement he obviously thought that Giuliani looked like the most likely candidate to win the nomination. Now he's backing another Repug with a much more moderate reputation than Perry, since, yet again, the guy- McCain looks like the most likely one to win the nomination. Not to mention he blatantly told Huckabee he'd support him "if he thought he could win." Few are as shameless as Rick Perry in announcing their true reasons for endorsing candidates.

If Perry is gunning for a VP slot, I'm all for it. The dude isn't even particularly popular in TX (won re-election with 39-percent of the vote in a four-way race) and TX is going Repug anyway, so he won't add to the ticket in that way. And Perry is too much of an airhead to be much of an asset to the ticket in terms of doing well in the debates or anything like that. And I doubt he's known for much of anything outside of TX beyond Molly Ivins's nickname for him, "Governor Goodhair."

28. Just curious...
How come some of want Huck to stay in? Wouldn't an evangelical christian, who says
he's going to govern as President according to Bible, be wrong for the country?
I was really hoping he would drop out after Romney did last week, because the thought
of him being president is a scary thought. Just wondering how beneficial it would
be to the Dems for him to stay.
