Screenwriters Union Votes to Approve Deal: WSJ

10 Feb 2008 | 02:57 PM ET

The negotiating committee of the Writers Guild of America voted unanimously to accept a new tentative three-year deal with the major Holywood studios, according to a report on WSJ.com that cited a person familiar with the situation.

The vote would clear the way for final approval of the agreement by film and TV writers who have been on strike for more than three months.

The full board is currently meeting discuss and vote on the contract. The WGA has scheduled a press conference at 3 p.m. New York time to talk about the contract.

Rank-and-file of the WGA gave a warm reception to a proposed settlement at membership meetings Saturday in New York and Los Angeles, hours after the deal was finalized.

3. The words that come out of actors' mouths are written by the writers
Their union won a hard fought fight against the greedy producers, most of which are foreign corporations.

4. Well, there goes interest in the election
I think that a lot of people were watching the debates because there are only reruns on. As soon as new episodes come back on, people will turn back into their media shell.

However, I know that the entertainment industry has been hit hard by this strike. Many other industries have been suffering, so it will be great for people to get back to work.

5. But, John Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Bill Maher will be better.
Also, the quality of their guests will be better. Have you noticed the number of right wing hacks increased on those shows during the strike? That's because more liberal voices wouldn't cross the picket lines. Maher was downright boring last Friday with his right wing guests that had nothing of substance to comment on. They needed a liberal voice to call them on their stupid ideologies.
