Obama beats Clinton -- this time at the Grammys
Source: AFP via Yahoo!

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama on Sunday beat two former US presidents, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, when he picked up a Grammy Award in Los Angeles.

Obama, who is currently neck and neck with Hillary Clinton in the fierce battle for the Democratic party's presidential nomination, won the music industry's prize in the category for best spoken word album.

The freshman senator for Illinois was honored for his audio version of his book "The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream."

It was Obama's second Grammy, having won the same spoken word award in 2005 for his book "Dreams From My Father."

5. Good question. On edit: Your OP is misleading. It was Bill Clinton who was up for a Grammy.
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 07:51 PM by Radio_Lady
You original post is quite misleading -- and provocative, too. There are TWO Clintons, and only one is running for President against Obama. They are separate individuals unless you haven't quite noticed.

Since your editing time has expired, I am taking it upon myself to qualify your original post.

12. it's a 'late breaking news'
article. It is required that you use the title of the article in your post. You can disagree all you want with the writer of the article, but the poster is simply posting the article in the correct category with the correct title.

13. Technically, you are right. The original headline writer was the one I should be chastizing.
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 10:08 PM by Radio_Lady

This is the "I was only following orders" defense.

If the OP had added the name 'Bill' in parentheses, the DU moderators would have understood.

Some headline writer somewhere thought this was a cute idea.

Journalistically, it was wrong.

Good night and good luck.

20. "The article needn't be posted," you said. That call could have been made by the OP, or the mods.
I've said enough about this already.

On to another topic...

Thanks for your post.

11. Jordi, in journalism, there are correct ways to communicate.
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 10:03 PM by Radio_Lady

I did click the link.

I'm sure if you had done the following, the DU would have understood:

Obama beats (Bill) Clinton -- this time at the Grammys

If you had been the headline writer, and I was your editor, I would have insisted on it, for clarification, and not to show favoritism to either candidate. But then, perhaps you just wanted to dig Hillary Clinton. How do I even know what your motivation is here?

I guess you got a charge out of the ambiguity and you just wanted to pass it along.

Cordially,

Radio Lady in Oregon

10. Especially since the subject said "this time..."
WHEN before has Obama been in the running for something against Bill Clinton? You're 100% correct - it's totally misleading. Not that something like that is unexpected here any more.

Dear Headline Writers:

Your headline in this story (text below) was inaccurate and misleading. Mr. Obama did not face Ms. Hillary Clinton at the award ceremony. Only her husband, Bill.

They are, of course, not the same person. Your story would have been less polarizing if you had not taken a "cheap shot" with the headline. It got copied into YAHOO and ended up on our website, the Democratic Underground.

Please observe good journalism principles during our hotly-contested US Presidential primary season.

Cordially, Ellen Kimball (Radio_Lady)

19. Great job - as I mentioned above, the "this time" is totally incorrect and misleading!
Barack Obama has never competed against Bill Clinton in anything. Therefore, the "this time" should never have been used. And if the obligation in this forum is to use the original headline, then the OP should never have posted that article here.

Thanks for following up with the AFP.
