Senior Texas Democrat Takes on Republican Incumbent (Frost vs Sessions)
DALLAS (Reuters) - Veteran Democratic Rep. Martin Frost on Friday responded to a Republican redistricting plan for Texas by saying he will challenge a Republican incumbent for his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Frost, one of the longest-serving Democrats from the South, said he will challenge Republican Rep. Pete Sessions in the Texas 32nd congressional district, which is comprised mostly of Dallas and some surrounding suburbs.

In a White House-backed power grab, brokered by House Majority Leader Tom Delay of Texas, Republicans in the Texas State House passed a redistricting plan aimed at removing Frost and other senior Democrats from their seats in Washington. Under the new plan, political observers said the current 16-16 split of the Texas delegation could swing to 22 Republicans and 10 Democrats.

Frost said it will be a tough fight to unseat Sessions in a district drawn specially to favor the Republican, but he thinks he can score the win. Frost also took a few swipes at DeLay and others behind the redistricting plan.

1. I admit I'm prejudiced,
but I think polling would show that Clark getting the nod would benefit the D here.

2. Go Martin Go!
Folks Martin Frost is going to need all the help we can give him. All Texans who can spare some time or money need to get behind Martin and keep him in office. The Texas re-redistricting game should be exposed for what it is. Let's keep hope alive.

3. Kick a Texas Dem in the ass
They are beaten, dispirited and without any fight left. They are down anjd can't get up.

But the pukes have succumbed to their own hubris in an attempt to drive a stake in the Dems heart; they are running a puke in every Dem district. If good Dems stand up and fight, the puke machine is spread too thin to fight a backlash from traditional Texas constituencies - if well organized.

Call your Texas Dem rep and speak with staff. Encourage them to pick themselves up and rejoin the fight. The people in their districts are losing their medical care and schools to criminal hoodlums posing as public servants.

Is Patricia Van De Pute the only one left with balls?

4. We are not...
"beaten, disspirited, and without fight". We are ANGRY. HEnce the two walkouts from our House and Senate reps during the redistricting fiasco. Hell, we have just about the only fighting Dems left in the country I think sometimes.

Do not underestimate how ANGRY many rural folks are here in Texas about this redistricting thing. THey screwed over rural Texans by taking away rural districts and throwing rural voters into districts that run into the heavily republican suburbs of the major cities - essentially taking away their distinct voice. I was at the redistricting field hearings and there is a seething undercurrent out there that may well rise up and bite the rethugs in the ass.

5. Donate whatever you can afford and write letters to them, Blanco in La.l
had a real fight against the Bush puppet, but we fought for her and she won. Now we have all key offices in the state. The Repukes have more money so its important that we donate. Give up a weekend of going out to a movie and dinner and donate to the Dem.

7. Dupe... locking
This thread has a few more responses, but it's a pretty late dupe.

Let's keep our discussion about Frost-Sessions consolidated into the earlier thread:

khephra, it would be very helpful if you could add your Reuters link to the other thread.

Thanks!
