DeFazio endorses Cheney investigation

Posted by The Oregonian February 13, 2008 16:06PM
WASHINGTON - Rep. Pete DeFazio, D-Ore., officially joined a small but persistent group of Democrats Wednesday calling for a robust investigation into the tenure of Vice President Dick Cheney as a possible prelude to impeachment.

DeFazio agreed to sign a letter circulated by Rep. Bob Wexler of Florida who has been relentlessly driving the so-far unsuccessful effort to boot Cheney from office. Wexler is backing his demands by orchestrating a petition drive aimed at showing public demand for investigating Cheney. The focal point of that effort is a website that allows anyone to sign the impeachment petition. So far he has 227,000 signatures.

``The charges against the vice president relate to the core actions of this Administration, its unlawful behavior and its abuse of power,'' Wexler wrote in a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers.``As you know, the charges against Vice President Cheney include providing Congress and the American people false intelligence leading up to the Iraq war, the revelation of the identity of a covert agent for political retaliation, and the illegal wiretapping of American citizens,'' says the letter, which was signed by Wexler, DeFazio and 13 other lawmakers.

DeFazio, who has been a frequent critic of the administration, said he had remained largely on the sidelines of the impeachment debate until now because it was centered in the Judiciary Committee of which he is not a member. But Wexler circulated the current letter more broadly, allowing members like DeFazio and opportunity to official voice their concerns.

5. Good old Pete,
wish the congress person where I reside now had his integrity. Hell' I wish about 400 of them had his integrity and that's giving the benefit of the doubt to several of the remainder.

8. It's about time!
In August Pete's answer to impeaching dead eye was, "If we impeach cheney, * will nominate Fred Thompson as his vp".

It was the worse townhall meeting ever. He did realize, though that his constituents were PISSED.

10. I'm sorry what was the excuse for the delay? It was circulating in the judiciary?
Why would that stop anyone from signing? Why was this not "circulated" earlier if that was the only problem? This sounds like crap to me. is this real? Does he have a point?

11. Yay! My favorite Oregon Congresscritter!
I used to go to his $35 pizza and beer fundraisers in Portland, even though Portland isn't in his district.

Not only is he on the right side of most issues and not afraid to say so, but he's friendly and approachable.

12. Hey, that's one of my Congresspersons!! Yaa.. Thanks Peter.
I know DeFazio was really pissed about being stiffed when trying to read the "classified" sections
of Bush' infamous "Directive 51" .. spelling out exactly how the gov't will impose Martial Law in
the event of almost any conceivable "national emergency" ... made a string of stinging speeches on
the House floor decrying his being denied access to this information, despite having every legal right
to access as member of House Committee on National Security.

I'm delighted and heartened that he's joined the impeachment camp. Bravo Peter!! Thanks for standing
up for America and the rule of law.

15. We have to do *something* about cheney.
To just let him fester for another year and then run off scot-free after all of his crimes and unconstitutional, un-American acts would send a terrible message for the future: "Hey, once you're in the White House, you can do whatever you want and nobody will touch you, as long as you are a Republican."

Of course, if you are a Democrat, you'll get investigated over everything and impeached over nothing, assuming you live.

We're acting like the "good Germans" that watched another evil tyrant seize and hold power. Luckily, it can't happen here. Right?

17. Too little too late
It is too late to do anything. I wonder if Nancy Pelosi realizes that she is the most hated woman in America? Even if it had failed, impeachment proceedings would have at least restored some faith in the Democratic Party. People in growing numbers no longer have any faith because of Nancy Pelosi. The Empress serving her Emperor.

Oblivious to the smoke rising around her. Along with most of Congress.

Rome is burning. Part of the agenda. An agenda served by the Empress.

But served also by the Clintons who seek not only to continue their own dynasty but the Bush dynasty as well.

Give him his trial in Iran.
Sentence him in Afghanistan.
Parade his remains through Iraq.
