In Reno, a Body Is Found and Fear Rises

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A 19-year-old college student missing since she was abducted nearly a month ago was strangled by a serial rapist who has attacked at least two other women and may strike again, Reno police said Saturday.

An autopsy confirmed that a dead woman found in a field on the city's south side Friday was Brianna Denison and that she died of strangulation, Reno Deputy Police Chief Jim Johns said.

Her body had been in the field for more than a week about 8 miles from the house where she last was seen early Jan. 20 at the edge of the University of Nevada, Reno, he said.

This young woman is a friend of one of my old friends from Reno.
Brianna's aunt and the family spokesperson, Lauren Denison, is also my friend's landlady.

A sad day indeed.

10. Every woman is at risk to a rapist. IMO a woman should learn to use a handgun, obtain a CCW, and

carry both at all times.

SCOTUS says self-defense is a personal responsibility and I would give a woman a reward if she used force to prevent rape. :grr:

She was sleeping the the living room of a group house. The women in the house had locks on their bedroom doors. Brianna was visiting, and sleeping on the couch. She could be clearly seen while sleeping through a French door type of front door that had no curtain on it. For some reason that night the front door was not locked.

She was 19, in school in Sacramento, but was Reno visiting family, and had stayed the night at her friends' place when she was abducted.

are the ideal circumstance for overpowering a weaker party and taking her weapon, or that guns kept for self defense are more danger to the owner (and the owner's family) than to any theoretical assailant.

I was raped at home, in bed, by my own husband at the time, while suffering from pneumonia and a high grade fever and too weak to get myself to the toilet unassisted. I probably couldn't have lifted a handgun, and I certainly couldn't have aimed one in his general direction without him taking it from me with ease, I was weak as a kitten. That's assuming I'd been stupid enough to keep that crazy fuck and a gun in the same house, in which case I probably wouldn't be alive to type this message and try in vain straighten your gun crazed ass out.

many many years ago student was murdered a block from UNR...my two roomates were questioned by detectives as had alibi for her boyfriend..

many years went by and it turned out to be a lesbian....same gal who was stalking my roomate working at night in the library and sending mash notes and we took turns walking her home every night.

Feel so bad for the student body as it's still vivid in my mind the terror we all went through. Another beautiful young woman lost.
