Meteor seen across wide swath of Pacific Northwest
Source: KOMO Staff and News Service

SEATTLE - A meteor was seen across a wide area of the Pacific Northwest early Tuesday.

A Federal Aviation Administration duty officer in Seattle confirms that the streaking light in the sky was a meteor.

The officer, who would not give his name, told The Associated Press it was seen by pilots from Boise, Idaho, westward well into Washington state.

Callers from across Western Washington reported seeing the bright light at about 5:30 a.m.

6. Weird coincidence... by FAR, the brightest meteor I've ever seen was over the Puget Sound.
It was in 1991; a slow-moving fireball (took about 2 seconds to traverse the sky from treetops to treetops in the clearing I was in) with a large trail of smoke lit up by the fireball.

Then this article about the current one also mentions two recent fireballs in 2004 and 2005.

I wonder what the frequency of fireball meteors in the Pacific NW is? I wonder what kind of military testing goes on up there? :tinfoilhat:

15. I saw it early this morning.
It was around 5:30 a.m. I was out driving, at that exact moment was facing north. Suddenly, the sky lit up amazingly bright.

I just remember looking up and thinking "Wow that was bright".
When I turned on the radio, people were discussing that it might have been the satellite which the US is going to shoot down. The radio announcer said, "no, this was a meteor".
