ABC: Fired officer claims woman's 'fall' gave her black eyes, broken teeth
Source: Raw Story

After Angela Garbarino was arrested in Shreveport, Louisiana last November on suspicion of drunk driving, she wound up lying on the police station floor in a pool of her own blood with two black eyes, a broken nose, two broken teeth, and other cuts and bruises.

Garbarino says that Officer Wiley Willis beat her up after turning off the police video camera. Willis's attorney insists that Garbarino slipped and fell when Willis tried to prevent her from leaving the room. However, Garbarino says that the extent of her injuries are proof that she was beaten...

16. I've slipped and fallen plenty of times.
And I never got back up looking anything *close* to that fucked up. Do cops still wonder why people hate them?

2. Saw this on the news last night -- he should not only have been fired but also arrested and charged
She had two massive black eyes (really they were half-face bruises), and all the other injuries. This only happened
in a fall if she was flung off the Empire State Building.

7. The police brutality has been on the rise this past year from what I've seen.
They are recruiting people who will comfortably fit the fascist mold that has been designed by our federal governmnent. This is the "trickle down" we get!

Also, are firms like Blackwater involved in training? Are police forces hiring those mercenaries? I wouldn't be surprised in the least.

13. Exellent Point!
I have a girlfriend that works for Child Protective Services near an Army base and she says there has been a significant increase in abuse as troops return.

If cities/counties/states are employing these veterans....we're just seeing the tip of the iceburg. Surely there is psychological testing before hiring - right?

37. That is an excellent question.
Also a lot of less-than-impressive people have been hired as cops without sufficient background checks. This happened a lot in Rudy Giuliani's NYPD. There was bad brutality back then.

15. What many don't realize is that many regular police officers
are National Guard members and have been called up to serve in Iraq. I have heard several references to local departments in our area losing officers and being understaffed due to the war. This may be leading to them scraping the bottom of the barrell to fill these vacancies.

UNbelieveable. Can't law enforcement do a better job of weeding out sociopaths, bullies, abusers and headcases? Or are we merely not caring that our police forces seem to consist of out-of-control thugs? What century am I living in?

Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 03:43 PM by jazzy062
is the lack of OUTRAGE by citizens regarding these incidents. It seems no one gives a shit until it happens to them or their loved ones. Some folks are so busy following Britney and watching American Idol that they see these things as trivial and not affecting them. They better wake up!

21. Oh, bullshit.
Before he even turns off the camera, when you see him handcuffing her, he smacks her into the wall and she falls. This guy was probably just aching to beat her, and he took advantage of the incredibly strange police procedure in this jurisdiction that allows you to turn off the camera.

They need to go after that guy. There's little worse than a bad cop. Fortunately, they're a minority in most places.

50. Seconded.
If I were another cop, I'd be pissed that he just put my life on the line. Now, because of his actions, other cops won't get assistance in bad situations, they won't get answers to investigation questions, they'll get resistance to arrest, extra complaints of excessive force, and perhaps jeered and taunted. People are more likely to stand back and watch the suspect attack the officer because they'll figure he had it coming.

The other police officers should be ashamed of this and moving to rectify the situation. If he was fired, there's more than enough justification to bring charges and take care of him.

40. Look at her forehead.
She was peeled open like a tangerine there. That ain't no fall. Besides, the tape does not show someone falling-down drunk. Most of her motor abilities are intact.

My expectation is sapper gloves on his hands when he punched her several times or he bounced her head off a wall or table edge a few times. I would expect he has a history of violence against women and prisoners that his police force has taken great pains to conceal.

41. "I am the law therefore I am above the law"
This is happening more and more around the country and the reality is the Justice Department just ignores it because the Justice Department is now completely corrupted along with everything else in this country.

It is part of the "oligarchy" that has been established by Republicrats.

And Nancy Pelosi wished the Pink Ladies were just homeless people because she could just call the police and have them thrown in jail. And would have. Or had someone else call for her. You wonder how many times she has had someone call for her and had the homeless people arrested. When you don't like the reflection in the mirror you smash it. Or call the police and have it taken away. Out of sight, out of mind.

When are people going to wake up to what has happened in this country?

43. I'm a klutz & have never ended up looking like that!
I'm pretty much your average klutz. I can fall up stairs and run into walls. I can fall over while standing still. I even walked right into my lamp once. But I have NEVER in all my trips, falls, etc ended up looking like that. Ever.
This is an outrage. If I had shown up at the police station looking like that & claimed someone abused me, they would have arrested him/her right away. But because the abuse happened AT the police station & the camera was conveniently turned off, no crime occurred. Disgusting.
