Jailed Milwaukee Alderman Michael McGee advances through primary

MILWAUKEE - Jailed Milwaukee Alderman Michael McGee led eight challengers in the primary election to advance to the April 1 general election for the post.

He received 2,916 votes, or 32 percent of those cast Tuesday, to advance along with attorney Milele Coggs, who had 2,064 or 22 percent, in the 6th District race on the city's north side.

McGee survived a recall last year, avoiding a runoff by getting more votes than his seven challengers combined.

But he was arrested less than two months later on charges of shaking down business owners for bribes, of conspiring to have a man beaten and of buying votes in the recall campaign, and he has remained in custody without bail.

5. Although it is well known he is a Democrat
We have tons of Right Wing radio around here (WTMJ 620 AM, WISN 1130 AM, etc) and they blast McGee as a criminal all the time, his constituents (who keep voting for him) as idiots and try to link the Democratic Party to his criminal scandals.

I think part of why he keeps getting elected is that his district purposely enjoys spiting those critics in addition to their approval of McGee's political stances.

9. I'm not sure how sucessful he will be advancing his political stance from inside a jail cell
I suppose he represents an affluent district with a low crime rate. The voters there don't need to worry about what type of services the city will provide.

11. I hope that they enjoy their spiting the conservative radio talkers
I'm sure that it is worth it.
