Americans feel better about future: Reuters poll
Source: Reuters

MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - Growing confidence in the future and slightly warmer views of President George W. Bush and Congress put Americans in a better mood this month, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

The Reuters/Zogby Index, which measures the mood of the country, rose sharply to 99.3 in February from last month's 94.2, putting it at the highest level since August.

Approval ratings for Bush climbed to 34 percent from 31 percent last month, and positive ratings for Congress inched up from 14 percent to a still-low 17 percent.

Concerns about personal finances, job security, safety and the direction of the country all eased at least slightly in the last month, brightening the outlook for Americans who had slipped into a funk around the holidays.

1. it's hard to reconcile the Bush approval numbers............but if American's are more optimistic,
it's because this long national nightmare of a presidency is about to be over in a few more months.

2. I think that's exactly it.
People feel that we must have bottomed out by now and things can only go up from here. I really wish they weren't wrong. :scared:

9. Isn't Zogby known for his fake polls?
It seems that whoever pays for the poll always gets the results they're looking for.

7. I expect approval ratings for George W. will exceed 75% by the end of the year. . .
at least that many people will be ecstatic to know he'll be gone in just a few short hours after the turn of the year.

It certainly brightens my day just knowing we're only 11 months away from his departure.

11. Did Americans take more antidepressants last month?
The economy's about to bungee jump without a cord off the tallest building it can find. Oil's going through the roof. Tens of thousands of war casualities are being dropshipped back home. America's broke and the credit's gone.

You picked the wrong month to be optimistic, little dears.

Now what's that tell ya?

Since it's an election year, I suspect Americans are more optimistic. After all the BUSH nightmare is just about over. :)

14. "..climbed to 34 percent from 31 percent..."
Wow! They climbed a whopping 3 points! That's HUGH!!!1!1!! :sarcasm:

People are probably more optimistic because they know Bush's reign of error will soon be over.

Reuter's is fos!

Among all Americans, 19% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 77% disapprove. When it comes to Bush's handling of the economy, 14% approve and 79% disapprove.

Among Americans registered to vote, 18% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 78% disapprove. When it comes to the way Bush is handling the economy, 15% of registered voters approve of the way Bush is handling the economy and 79% disapprove.

Now let me go find the link! :silly:

18. Only 1,105 likely voters polled? Who are these people?
Problem with polls is that you have to know a lot about statistics. The Reuters article did not give enough facts for me to understand how this number was derived.
http://www.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idUSN1948614520080220?pageNumber=3&virtualBrandChannel=0
"The telephone poll of 1,105 likely voters, taken Wednesday through Saturday, had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points."
