White House: (NY) Times Made ‘Incredible Leaps’ in McCain Story
Source: WSJ

A day after the New York Times suggested Sen. John McCain had an improper relationship with a female telecommunications lobbyist, the White House accused the newspaper of taking “incredible leaps to drop bombshells” on Republican presidential candidates.

“I think a lot of people here in this building with experience in a couple campaigns have grown accustomed to the fact that during the course of the campaign, seemingly on maybe a monthly basis leading up to the convention, maybe weekly basis after that, the New York Times does try to drop a bombshell on the Republican nominee, and that is something the Republican nominee has faced in the past and probably will face in this campaign,” White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said Friday.

“Sometimes they make incredible leaps to try to drop those bombshells on Republican nominees,” Stanzel added. “That is something we’re aware of and that unfortunately is a fact of life.” Stanzel declined to say whether Democratic nominees are given the same
treatment by the Times, but said it is a “pretty regular” occurrence for the GOP.

13. Yep, you'd think Bush would recognize "incredible leaps"
Not to mention stove-piping, guilt by association, innuendo passed off as fact, and coincidence dressed up as an irrefutable connection.

6. Nicely parsed non-denial denial
Sometimes they make incredible leaps.

How about this time, is this one of those incredible leaps?

NYT tried to drop a bombshell on the Republican nominee.

Do they drop bombshells on Democratic nominees?

Is the story factual?

Do you deny the story?

That blows the theory right there.

17. Conservatives aren't the brightest people.
They'll manage (once again) to ignore facts they don't like, in favor of believing what they want.

10. Hey hypocrites..
I seem to remember in 1999 when you claimed McCain had an illegitimate black child. Now that's an incredible leap, even for a POS like McCain.

Anyone still think this is a Rovain ploy? The entire GOP machine has been out defending McCain nonstop against this "smear campaign". The story is real and it's big. Each day they continue to downplay it and trash the messenger, the bigger it really is.

14. Yeah, those paxton type of leaps...
The sex angle is just the eye grabber for the public, the real story is a little quid pro quo on the part of "straight talker" mclame.

sordid little details about jets, meals, money, donations and a little bill.

if the times wants to regain a small piece of their integrity, they should run with this story, but alas, I'm so jaded at this point that only the sex angle will be the only thing mentioned.

15. ... and knowing how much * dislikes McCain (and vice versa) ...
I wouldn't be at all surprised if the basic story came from Dimson's office itself.

So he'd know all about (and probably encouraged) whatever 'leaps' the NYT made ...

19. Pot meet kettle...
The bush campaign did the same thing to McCain in 2000. The rumor was circulated (in the south) that his adopted child was actually the product of an African American hooker that McCain knocked up. With the way the pukes hate McCain, I wouldn't doubt it if they started this one, too.

one thing: every single letter of this story is 100% true, and they KNOW it.

We all know that McCain is the media's Patron Saint, and their coverage of this story just proves it. When was the last time they went out of their way to turn a critical eye on a story that made Hillary or Obama (when they couldn't use it to directly bash Hillary) look bad?
