Superdelegates Turning Toward Obama

Clinton's Lead In Democratic Superdelegates Narrows
10:07 pm EST February 22, 2008

WASHINGTON -- The Democratic superdelegates are starting to follow the voters -- straight to Barack Obama.

In just the past two weeks, more than two dozen of them have climbed aboard his presidential campaign, according to a survey by The Associated Press. At the same time, Hillary Rodham Clinton's are beginning to jump ship, abandoning her for Obama or deciding they now are undecided.

The result: He's narrowing her once-commanding lead among these "superdelegates," the Democratic office holders and party officials who automatically attend the national convention and can vote for whomever they choose.

As Obama has reeled off 11 straight primary victories, some of the superdelegates are having second -- or third -- thoughts about their public commitments.

1. superdelegates
The superdelegates should support the candidate who gets the
popular vote. It will be very anti-democratic to do otherwise.
The whole process needs to be reformed. If Hillary does not do
well on Mar. 4 she should step down and eliminate the
potential problem of superdelegates deciding the election.

9. It's only to be expected that supers would lean toward the DLC's Anointed One...
...and that some of them would switch sides when there is a new leader. I don't even have much problem with a majority of them opposing the regular delegates, but it would be unfortunate if they tipped the race the "wrong" way, against the regular delegate majority.

Such an event would highlight the disconnect between ordinary Americans and party leadership, so maybe it's good that the concept is under some scrutiny now.

14. Count them if there's a re-vote

So everyone has a say. Obama's name wasn't on the ballot in MI.
Of course, he would win, so HRC's not pushing THIS idea.

15. Why would they be counted?
They didn't vote in fair elections, did they?

4. As they should in many cases. However, neither candidate will get enough delegates to win.
We will not have a candidate before the convention if we stick to the agreed upon rules.

I just can't see Hillary able to cut the mustard in a testosteronized world.

10. Hillary has made it so easy for them to decide
Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 11:34 AM by nebula
The Supes have likely been disgusted and turned off by her campaign tactics just as much as
the voters have, abandoned ship and they're now fleeing as fast as humanly possible from the trainwreck.

Keep up the good work Hill!

11. And now Hillary's comparing Obama to Bush

That'll go over well. Funny how she's turned on their family friend George Bush.
I know Bill has spent time at their home in NH. Has Hillary?

And to think George Bush came out and publicly defended Bill Clinton over the
allegations that he is racist. Did Hillary ask him if he would mind if she bashed
him in order to help her campaign. Why hasn't anyone questioned their close
friendship to the Bushes?
