Source: BBC

Left-wing Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias has won the presidential election, defeating rival right-winger Ioannis Kasoulides.

In a victory speech, he promised to work on re-uniting the divided island.

Mr Kasoulides congratulated him on his victory and offered to help find a solution to the division of Cyprus.

2. Very interesting development. The island's residents want real reunification.
The more conservative parties there always said that a communist candidate would never win.

The people are frustrated. The conservative candidate was not getting anywhere.

3. K&R
The EU needs more left-wing leaders. Currently there are far too many right-wing governments there.

5. Communism is so 1980s - we've moved on to new boogeymen
Sure, commie countries like Venezuela, Cuba, and North Korea get on our nerves. But they're just mere annoyances now that we've moved on to countries that worship Allah. After all, political motivations can come and go with the wind, but religious hatred can always be counted on!
