MARYSVILLE, Ohio -- Honda Motor Co. plans to stop producing motorcycles in the United States next year and will transfer production to Japan, the automaker announced Wednesday.

Honda currently makes motorcycles at its plant in Marysville, Ohio, employing 450 workers.

Honda said there will be no layoffs when production ends in spring 2009. The workers will remain with the company, helping produce cars, trucks, engines and parts and filling other jobs at Honda's other operations in west-central Ohio, the company said.

The motorcycle plant opened in 1979 as Honda's first U.S. plant. Last year, it produced about 44,000 Gold Wing touring and VTX cruiser bikes.

1. Japan Is Bringing Their Jobs Back Home--Time We Did the Same
Wonder if this was official government policy, or unofficial? To be sure, in Japan, it was governmentally decided!

2. Sounds like no layoffs in the article and its a reassignment, but we all know how that changes..
People are reassigned and then sent off on their merry way when the profits don't continue to surge. Very depressing that less things are being made in the US, even if it was a Japanese company sending the work back home.

6. BIG disconnect between your headline and the content of the article.
"Honda said there will be no layoffs when production ends in spring 2009. The workers will remain with the company, helping produce cars, trucks, engines and parts and filling other jobs at Honda's other operations in west-central Ohio, the company said."

Doesn't exactly sound like 450 jobs are being cut at all. Which is cool - I live in Ohio, and it's for damn sure we could use to keep those jobs.

10. So when do the alternative energy industries open in Ohio?
Remember...according to HRC in the debate, there will be a great demand for solar panels and windmills.

I have to wonder how long Honda plans to keep the rest of its operations in Ohio.
