Calif. Capitol chaplain says religious tolerance offends God
Source: Associated Press

SACRAMENTO, (AP) -- An evangelical chaplain who leads Bible studies for California lawmakers says God is disgusted with a rival fellowship group that includes people of all faiths.

"Although they are pleasant men in their personal demeanor, their group is more than disgusting to our Lord and Savior," Drollinger wrote on the Capitol Ministries' Web site.

The comments drew immediate fire from others in the capital, including the Republican lawmaker who sponsors Drollinger's Bible study group.

Drollinger said "progressive religious tolerance" is an offense against God and causes harm to its practitioners.

1. I seem to recall the Pharisees in the Bible being horrified that Jesus
hung out with so many "disgusting" people.

6. "a good moral teacher. . ."
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 07:28 PM by CDM gone Dem
My favorite part is Drollinger's complaint about them displaying Jesus as "a good moral teacher who loves everyone without distinction". Has this guy read The Bible? I recall parts about hanging out with tax collectors & prostitutes, etc. Lots of moral stories told by Jesus--takes up a pretty decent chunk of the gospels.

I'm so glad we have people like Drollinger! How else would we know what God is thinking? :sarcasm: :banghead:

8. Does the state pay for his services?
Religious prayers, bible studies, or other services should not be performed on government property. PERIOD

If a legislator needs religious counseling then do it off government property and on their own time.

abuse his unconditional love and acceptance for their own twisted reasons. THis guy is a dick. He will find out someday that he was an abomination and a fool. He doesn't speak for god anymore than Osama and the rest of the world's assholes.

11. Oh, for Pete's sake.
A. How the hell does this guy know what is "disgusting" to God?
B. What the hell is this guy doing leading Bible studies for California lawmakers? (more below)
C. Jesus was not a good moral teacher? Even I, an atheist, know that he was.
D. Last line: "He is not paid by the state, but Capitol Ministries pays him $120,000 a year to minister to politicians across the country."

Sounds a little fishy.
Sounds even fishier when you check out this Capitol Ministries: http://www.capmin.org/Default.aspx
Its a bit scary, and really hammers home why separation of church and state is important...

15. this is typical.
fundies are sick. that is a sick statement. this man claims to know what god feels about others who do not practice religion in exactly the way he does. he says god is a conservative republican? wow. wouldn't that be a shock to that commie Jesus and his commie apostles, giving away all they own, being the Good Samaritan, pooling their finances when needed to help one another.

So, by his logic, does that mean Jesus is in hell?

Aproned senators protest pastor's remark

'Sinful' zinger aims at legislator moms

By Jennifer Coleman
ASSOCIATED PRESS

May 25, 2004

SACRAMENTO – Several state senators donned kitchen aprons and scarlet "M's" yesterday to protest remarks by a pastor who said female lawmakers with small children at home were "sinful."
(snip)

"I'm all for the female legislators serving our great state with all of their giftedness, in due time," Drollinger said. "If they have children at home, they need to share those gifts with their children. Then after that, as Ecclesiastes says, there is a season that they can serve in the Legislature."
(snip)

About a dozen senators, male and female, joined the protest, including Senate President Pro Tem John Burton, who presided over the Senate while adorned in a pink flowered apron.

Bowen, D-Marina del Rey, went barefoot on the floor of the Senate, brought a toaster and other kitchen accessories to her desk there and sported the scarlet "M" for mother.

19. The asshole must have God on speed dial
Gee, religious tolerance offends the God that said, "Turn the other cheek", "Forgive all", "Let he who has not sinned be the first to cast the stone"... "love thy enemy"...? Yeah, such a God must truly be disgusted by such things as religious tolerance.

To me, it just proves more and more that the God they preach of does not exist (though I'm agnostic, uncertain) - for if he did, he'd be blasting these assholes with lightning bolts.

trying to wipe out the rest of us. Only a matter of time before fundamentalist Christians advocate the same thing.

Oh, and btw, I believe people who talk that way are Un-american. As any child can tell you, one of Americans most valued ideals is that of tolerance.
