Japan whaling footage horrifying: Debus
Source: ABC

Federal Minister for Home Affairs Bob Debus has described images of Japanese whaling, captured by Australian customs officials, as horrific.

Australian customs ship the Oceanic Viking arrived in the Western Australian port of Fremantle after seven weeks at sea, collecting video and photographic evidence of Japanese whaling activities.

Mr Debus says the the footage taken in the Southern Ocean shows the bodies of small whales being dragged onto the Japanese ship and a Japanese crew member shooting a whale with a rifle.

"These are really quite horrifying images," he said.

"There's a lot of blood and it's obvious the animals are in a lot of pain and its clear that the overwhelming majority of the Australian people don't like it."

1. My honest response:
"Dear Japan. Stop this immediately or the Enola Gay will visit next week. No shit."

2. Don't be such a moron
Now, hoping the ships are sunk, that's another story.

4. First, Doolittle would be a more apt metaphor.
Secondly, most of the people don't want and don't buy the meat. It would be better to employ frogmen to sink the ship than it would be to target civilians or companies.

5. "...it's obvious the animals are in a lot of pain..."
I'd really love to see one, just one of those whaling vessels sent to the bottom.

6. Hoping for a miracle, by now. Looks like that's the only thing which will help.
The whalers in Japan, and Norway, Iceland have no consciences, no respect for their fellow human beings who have begged them to have mercy on these intelligent animals.

They're not going to change, so it's got to be something BIG to assist their movement away from this filthy level of vicious, destructive violence.

11. I'm sure I can't begin to understand how any of those cultures justify this to themselves.
It's clear the world is running out of whales, and that even if we weren't, the level of consciousness among intelligent people everywhere has been rising for a long time, and customs and beliefs which were acceptable to ancestors fell by the wayside a long time ago for many people.
