Simmering domestic issues face next president
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The next president will face long-simmering domestic problems that range from a weakening economy to ballooning health care costs and stubborn budget deficits.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which cost $11 billion a month, are among the policy challenges that will remain for whoever takes over the White House next January.

They are part of President George W. Bush's focus on national security issues that followed the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

<snip>

The U.S. debt stood at about $5.6 trillion when Bush took office in January 2001, and is on pace to top $10 trillion by the time he leaves office in January 2009.

1. Meanwhile, MonkeyBoy will ride off into the sunset 01-20-09
grinning and waving like a circus clown with tormenting rectal itch.

The next president will inherit a mess like never before seen.

4. So why in the *&^% didn't the media press all the candidates on these issues?
Why didn't the media ASK the candidates what their plans were to address these problems.

Oh, silly me. Actually asking about solutions...

5. I don't think the media...
will ever ask the questions we need the answers to. I don't think any grass roots candidacy will survive the top-down information industry. I think the internet has provided people with a tool to formulate their own questions, and seek the answers to their questions. And I think both the questions and the answers are not based in 'issues', but in how Government works, why it works the way it does, and how anything short of Revolution can change that.

7. They purposely waited until the Republican nominee was chosen
and the Democratic nomination was whittled down to the two least likely to do anything about the problem. That tells you all you need to know.

The next President will pay lip service to these issues, enough to keep the plates spinning for another four years. Just think about Bill deep-sixing the BCCI investigations.
