Bill Clinton: A Clinton-Obama ticket would be 'unstoppable'

(CNN) — Even as Hillary Clinton's campaign attacked her rival, Barack Obama, for failing to "deliver on his promises," her husband, former President Bill Clinton said Saturday that a joint ticket pairing the two would be "almost unstoppable."

The former president referred to his wife's own comments that indicated a willingness to consider the prospect. "She said yesterday and she said the day after her big wins in Texas and Ohio and Rhode Island that she was very open to that and I think she answered explicitly 'Yes' yesterday," said Clinton during a Mississippi campaign appearance.

"I know that she has always been open to it, because she believes that if you can unite the energy and the new people that he's brought in and the people in these vast swaths of small town and rural America that she's carried overwhelmingly, if you had those two things together she thinks it'd be hard to beat."

He added that, in his view, Obama would win the "urban areas and the upscale voters" while Clinton claims "the traditional rural areas that we lost when President Reagan was president. If you put those two things together, you'd have an almost unstoppable force."

50. No matter what Obama might say, it's being considered.

But Obama knows there's going to have to be a lot of negotiating if there's any deal. Obama saw what happened to Al Gore under the Bill Clinton administration. He would have to be assured that won't happen. Also there's the question of: what will they do with Bill who will obviously will come in as the closest adviser, which is likely going to hang Obama out to dry.

It would almost have to be a power-sharing deal: Obama on domestic concerns, Clinton on foreign affairs. Even with that, Obama would have to be on top of the ticket.

Or they might come to some agreement, like HC gets the presidency this year but in 4 years Obama will run.

HC wants this election bad, because in eight more years, she will be 68. That's almost John McCain ancient. This might surely be her last chance to be president.

There is absolutely NO comparison between the high road, decent campaign John Kerry ran and what the Clintons are doing. Get over the fact that Kerry SOUNDLY beat Dean and the others running in 2004. The fact is that he got 9 million more votes than Gore in 2000.

I talked to a swing voter who voted for Bush - she had no problem with Kerry or his wife as people - the problem - as someone who was a teen during WWII, she thought it was wrong to question a war when we were in it - thus "Wrong war, wrong time, wrong place" was not ok. Furthermore, she knew that his constant comment that it was not a "war of last resort" meant that it was not a just war - and she gave him enough credit as a Catholic to know that. She also thought that questioning how the war was run should not be second guessed. Now, how would any Democrat win people like this - and there were many - just in her circle of friends. (She had voted Gore, but 6 months after 911 was saying that it was a good thing that Bush won. She was a classic case of someone who rallied around the President, because to her that's what you do when the country is imperiled.)

Kerry is now an excellent surrogate for Obama - and many people who learned a lot with Kerry in 2004 are with Obama.

The Clintons are obviously worried - they keep offering the vice-presidency if Barack Obama concedes now. Why should he concede?

Like it or not, Barack Obama can also pull some Republicans who reject the rabidness of their party which John McCain has begun to pander to as well as some Independents. No Republican will vote for Hillary Clinton. Few if any Independents will.
