Tucker Canceled; Other Programming Changes Ahead
Source: TVNewser

Insiders tell TVNewser Tucker Carlson's 6pmET show Tucker is getting the axe, but Carlson stays on as a political contributor to all MSNBC shows at least through the 2008 election. The official announcement, expected tomorrow, will include details about who will replace Tucker at 6pmET as well as other political programming additions. Sources say the network is going to beef up its schedule with more NBC News talent.

In recent days, Jossip, as well as other blogs, ratcheted up the talk that Tucker would be replaced "for a new project." In its 33-month run, Carlson's show has had two names, four time slots and multiple formats. At 6pmET, it builds on its Hardball lead-in on some days, but loses audience on others.

Carlson is expected to host the show through next week, with his new role and title to take effect March 17. We're told he'll also be reporting from the campaign trail.

23. you obviously didn't see the clip where
the female FOX anchors were making fun of Hillary's pantsuits saying that at FOX they don't wear pantsuits cause they like to be feminine.

Hopefully that provides more context, I apoligize I thought it was universally known.

31. not a response
I realize you were making a joke at fox's expense but at the same time, you slammed tucker for his looks, specifically masculinity or lack thereof. I can't stand the guy, but basically calling him a "girly man" a la Schwarzenegger is tacky. I am sure there are those on this board who would be personally offended. Based on that, I am offended. Its tacky.

I got the tripwire part of your post but did not get the mousetrap part. What is the trap set for us.

43. Actually, it was shortly AFTER the invasion of Iraq that Tucker Carlson...
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 10:14 PM by Eric J in MN
...decided it was a bad idea, and not before the invasion.

Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tucker_Carlson#Supporting.2C_then_opposing.2C_the_U.S._war_in_Iraq

Carlson initially supported the U.S. war with Iraq during its first year. After a year, he began criticizing the war, telling the New York Observer: "I think it’s a total nightmare and disaster, and I’m ashamed that I went against my own instincts in supporting it. It’s something I’ll never do again. Never. I got convinced by a friend of mine who’s smarter than I am, and I shouldn’t have done that. No. I want things to work out, but I’m enraged by it, actually."

smart-ass snot-noses too much. Even when he did finally get rid of that stupid affectation of a bow tie.

I've seen him on the air sporadically for years and never once did I remember him talking, way back when, about how he was against the war.

I usually watch "Morning Joe" if I have the chance in the morning. A wide variety of guests and opinions from every political angle. As you can see from most of the posts tho most people prefer to only hear opinions and views that basically feed their own viewpoint.

Good luck with that bunch Rachel. But if any one woman I've seen out there this season can handle them, you are the one.

Everyone I know does the same thing we do. How do the sponsors make any money advertising for that bullshit. Then again I mute commercials too, no matter the station.

It precedes Dan Abrams run as general manager of MSNBC.

61. The only thing I like about him...
... is that lately he has been doing a better job of telling Hillary's spokespeople that they are full of shit better than anyone else. He would do it right to their face also. Tweety an others would do it from the safety of a separate segment, and then fellate them when they are on the same air. Tucker would call them out from across a table.

63. I Want A Job Like That
I want a job where I can SUCK so badly, my show gets cancelled, yet I still get paid and am able to continue spewing CRAPOLA on a major network.

WHY CAN'T THESE FUCKING LOSERS JUST GO AWAY COMPLETELY???

If it were a Liberal, they would shitcan them, just like they did to Donahue. Conservatives, apparently get new assignments.

68. Good point. When they fired Phil Donahue,
...(who had a lot more viewers than Tucker Carlson,)

they didn't keep Donahue on the channel to regularly give his opinion during other shows.

81. Donahue was fired for his opinions -even though he had the top ratings
on the channel... which was otherwise dismal (and but for Olbermann, remains dismal).

I'm so proud of Rachel- having been a fan from the first time I heard her on Air America.

I've been hoping Rachel Maddow and Pat Buchanan would get a show together- it would be like Hannity and Colmes- but with brains.

72. Goodfooking riddence! (Said with my best Scottish accent!)
Smarmy prick was given a show because his dad was someone in the Biz. Stewart schooled his ass many moons ago and that should have been a wakeup call for Dan Abrams. But Abrams is still running that repetitive prison bullshit so I guess he's not too bright himself. They should ditch Scarborough next. Then Tweety. Then Abrams. Give his job to Olberman who is the best of the bunch there. Then it would be a network worth a watching.

I never watched his show, and made sure to not sleep with the tv on if he was on. Only thing good about seeing Tucker's face on tv was it reminded me the Simpsons were on lol. Same with Dobbs, I can't stand him anymore. I mean Dobbs is smart in all, but Jesus he goes off in some crazy rants.

107. New MSNBC Lineup
NEW YORK — March 10, 2008 — MSNBC, the Place for Politics, is expanding its already substantial political programming lineup next week as the 2008 presidential race continues to heat up. NBC News Chief White House Correspondent David Gregory will anchor "Race for the White House," a fast-paced daily look at the latest election news, weekdays, 6-7 p.m. ET on MSNBC. "Race for the White House" premieres Monday, March 17, and will continue through the election and beyond as the nation's focus continues on the historic Presidential campaign. Also bolstering MSNBC's political coverage, NBC News' Andrea Mitchell will anchor MSNBC each weekday afternoon, 1-2 p.m. ET

MSNBC's top-rated "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" will now telecast twice in primetime, with a re-air weeknights at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. "Countdown" will also air weeknights at 11 p.m. PT/2 a.m. ET; the original telecast remains at 8 p.m. ET. MSNBC is also expanding the "doc block," which will now telecast weeknights, 11 p.m.-2 a.m. ET/8 p.m.-11 p.m. PT.

Also March 17, "Live with Dan Abrams" re-launches as "Verdict with Dan Abrams," an hour-long look at the day's news from a legal perspective, and expands to five nights a week. Each day "Verdict" will assess right from wrong and determine the winners and losers in politics, law and pop culture. In this political season, Abrams will continue to use his legal eye to stay "On Their Trail" separating fact from fiction, identifying and exposing the candidate's biggest misstatements, cheap shots and blunders, while continuing viewer-favorite segments "Beat the Press" and "Winners and Losers." "Verdict" will telecast weekdays, 9-10 p.m. ET.

"Race for the White House with David Gregory" will feature reports from MSNBC and NBC News correspondents around the country with the latest breaking political news and in-depth analysis of the campaigns. Tucker Carlson will remain with the network as MSNBC Senior Campaign Correspondent and will appear regularly throughout MSNBC's program lineup.

112. A limerick for Tucker
There once was a pundit named Tucker
Given to bow ties and seersucker.
His snarky demeanor
Made his ratings much leaner
So they canned the little motherf**ker.
