Five U.S. soldiers die in Baghdad bomb blast
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 09:46 AM by Barrett808

BAGHDAD, March 10 (Reuters) - Five U.S. soldiers were killed and three others wounded in a bomb blast in central Baghdad on Monday, the U.S. military said, in the worst single attack on U.S. forces in Baghdad in months.

An Iraqi interpreter was also wounded in the explosion, which hit the soldiers while they were on foot patrol, the military said in a statement.

Iraqi police said the soldiers had been walking in the street in Mansour district when a suicide bomber wearing an explosives vest walked up to them and blew himself up.

A police official at Baghdad's Yarmouk hospital said nine wounded Iraqis had been admitted, including a policeman. They had spoken of a suicide bomber who had exploded among the Americans, he said.

The U.S. military said four soldiers were killed in the blast and one died later of wounds. It did not confirm the cause of the explosion.

"We remain resolute in our resolve to protect the people of Iraq and kill or capture those who would bring them harm," said Colonel Allen Batschelet, chief of staff of U.S. forces in Baghdad.

6. I agree..K &R..This is the most important news.
We cannot forget what is going on now...Right Now

The decisions that were made years ago, by people who lied, stole, and cheated, are still with us, right now. Killing right now.

We... cannot change the past, yet we can change now, tomorrow, and tomorrow after that. Yet they won't.

So, we must.................

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,We must not forget........................

of Iraq...."

Colonel Batschelet's name seems oddly appropriate as it reminds me of "Batshitcrazy." If he really believes that the US military is over there to protect Iraqis, he's certifiable.

RIP soldiers. You were used and abused by your own country and lost your lives for nothing.

12. protect the people who seem oddly determined to kill us
even at the certain cost of their own lives. They simply do not understand the essential contradiction of our occupation of Iraq, even when it quite literally blows up in their faces.

10. There is no protection from this kind of attack.
Junior and his gang have made so many enemies of people who have nothing left to lose.

Put Junior on point, six stars on his helmet and a big radio.

U.S. Soldiers On Foot Patrol Hit By Bomb; Blast Wounds Three Other Soldiers

(CBS/AP) Five American soldiers on a foot patrol were killed Monday in an apparent suicide bomb attack in central Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

Four of the soldiers died at the scene and the fifth died later from wounds, the military said in a statement. The blast also wounded three U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter, the military said.

The statement said the soldiers were killed "when their dismounted patrol was struck by an explosion" and "initial reports indicated the explosive device was a suicide vest."

The name of the soldiers were being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

17. Just think 100 more years of this if John Insane steals the Whitehouse!
And the war crime that Bu$h Inc. started keeps on killing. Are my fellow Americans as ashamed of this idiocy as I am? I guess not. America, land of the free home of the brave? It makes me free to have my military occupying a country on the other side of the planet? And what kind of bravery does it take to sit back and let this unwinnable war crime continue? My answer: None. Fear keeps this awful war crime going. And it is shameful. RIP to our troops who continue to be used as cannon fodder.
