Domestic Issues Hurt Bush in Poll (Tied with Any Democrat!)
President Bush delivers his State of the Union address tonight to an American public that has become broadly dissatisfied with his domestic agenda, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The survey found that, on the eve of his annual address to Congress, Bush continues to enjoy a huge advantage over Democrats on matters of national security, besting them by 2 to 1 in the fight against terrorism and by nearly as broad a margin on his handling of the conflict in Iraq.

But while Bush retains the support of nearly six in 10 Americans, the public believes Democrats would do a better job on domestic issues, such as the economy, prescription drugs for the elderly, health insurance, Medicare, the budget deficit, immigration and taxes. And Bush has lost the advantage on education policy he once enjoyed.

As a result, Bush finds himself in a statistical dead heat with the opposition nine months before the election. When matched against a generic Democratic presidential candidate -- the party held its first nominating contest last night in Iowa -- Bush narrowly wins, 48 percent to 46 percent. On the question of who is trusted to handle the nation's major problems, Bush is roughly even with Democrats, ahead 45 percent to 44 percent -- down from an 18-point advantage Bush enjoyed nine months ago.

1. whoever is in charge of these polls is obviously being bribed to skew them
and make sure that his standing never falls below the 50% mark. he wasn't elected... we all know that more than half the public never wanted the bastard in office.

2. I have believed the polls have been rigged since day 1 in his* reign..
I am even more convinced now because of the many repukes I have come into contact with over the past year who will NEVER vote for him again. How easy are they to rig? Answer: Who owns the media?

4. I'm not sure about that..
..remember, many people in this nation still love the man for the Iraq war and his "good ol' boy" charm. Having the media portray you as a down-home sort of fellow is a powerful thing. Bush's popularity is down, but the Democratic party is going to have a hell of a fight on its hands to remove Bush from power.

7. there's a difference
in winning an election and removing someone from power. 2000 taught us the dangers inherent in that.

so do the democrats just find better diebold voting machine hackers? have a better team of lawyers? start impeachment proceedings october 15th?

as much as president man-child loves his power, he has no intention of leaving office before january 20, 2009.

besides, think of all the oil that still has to be grabbed. all the young men and women to be drafted. all the protections still to be rolled back.

there'll be a fight. a big one.

6. It is strange that
he is never permitted to fall much into the forties. I like the direction these numbers are going, we'll have to wait and see.

3. He'll have to talk about those..
unpopular domestic policies in his SOTU address, something he's rarely been effective at. I don't expect his numbers to go up when he reminds people of the less than popular policies his administration has enacted.
