SPITZER TO ANNOUNCE RESIGNATION IN THE HOUR: SOURCES
By FREDRIC U. DICKER, STATE EDITOR

March 12, 2008 -- Posted at 8:38 a.m.

Gov. Eliot Spitzer has decided to resign and will begin notifying top state officials of his decision just after 9 a.m., The Post has learned.

Word began circulating of his decision in state political circles just minutes ago, which came after what one source called "an agonizing night," as the governor's wife, Silda Wall Spitzer, and the governor's lawyers went over a possible plea deal offered by federal prosecutors, sources told The Post.

Lt. Gov. David Paterson, who has remained at his suburban Albany home for the past three days, was expected to be notified of Spiter's decision within the hour.

Sources said Paterson has told friends that if he does become governor, he would like Sptizer to hold off his resignation until Monday to give him enough time to prepare for a transition.

TALLAHASSEE -- Cocoa Beach Democrat Tony Sasso got a warm, if slightly flubbed, welcome to the Florida House this morning.

Introducing Sasso at a morning news conference a few hours before the 2008 legislative session convened, House Democratic Leader Dan Gelber bragged that Sasso was a moderate Democrat who represents the "future of the party," and that Sasso is the ninth Democrat to win a formerly Republican seat in the last three years.

Sasso a week ago won a special election to replace disgraced Republican Rep. Bob Allen, who resigned after being convicted of misdemeanor solicitation for an incident stemming from a public men's room in a Titusville park.

18. There is more to this story......
If I recall Spitzer went after some very powerful people in the financial world - people with deep pockets and long memories. And he made it personal in many of these cases, being only content with humiliating his targets. Pay back is a bitch and this guy walked right into it. No sympathy at all.

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Eliot Spitzer, the 54th governor of the state of New York, will resign Wednesday morning, a high-ranking official tells CBS station WCBS-TV in New York's political reporter Andrew Kirtzman. Lt. Gov. David Paterson will be sworn in later in the day in Albany.

There has been no set timetable for an announcement and an official letter of resignation has not been handed down, but both were expected at any moment.

The Associated Press reports that New York Governor Eliot Spitzer will resign effective Monday after being linked to a prostitution ring.

The New York Post reported that his announcement of resignation would come this morning.

...snip...

Word began circulating of his decision in state political circles just minutes ago, which came after what one source called "an agonizing night," as the governor's wife, Silda Wall Spitzer, and the governor's lawyers went over a possible plea deal offered by federal prosecutors, sources told The Post.

...snip...

New York State Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco (R) told the Fox News Channel on Wednesday Republicans have already drafted articles of impeachment. He says that if Spitzer doesn't resign today impeachment proceedings will begin.

16. No Dem takeover of NY Senate.
They are still behind. The only thing is that Joe Bruno does not get to cast a vote to break a tie in the Senate.

25. I find it a bit difficult to believe that the timing on this is all just a coincidence.
I think that Spitzer's arrogance may have asked for this..but I do believe that he was being looked at VERY carefully by those whom he had stepped on.
