China beats US in Net penetration
Source: Economic Times India

14 Mar, 2008, 1301 hrs IST, AFP

BEIJING: China now has about 220 million Internet users, overtaking the number of web surfers in the United States for the first time ever, a research firm said Friday.

The Chinese figure dates from late February, when the US online population was estimated at about 217 million, according to BDA China, a Beijing-based technology consulting and research firm.

"It's driven by continued economic growth and improved broadband infrastructure," said Liu Bin, an analyst with BDA China.

By the end of 2008, China is expected to have 280 million Internet users, he said. The United States has occupied the number one position ever since the birth of the Internet as a network of computers under the auspices of the US Department of Defence in 1969, the state-run China Daily newspaper said.

1. Percentage Wise, Not Sheer Numbers, US Has More Coverage
The sellers make money on head counts.

Information spreads on percentages.

Information spreading is the important thing. That's why China censors the Net! And why Bush tries to.

3. Some may miss the importance of this - don't forget that China users are more regulated than we are.
.
.
.

If unregulated, China could probably swamp the bandwidth of any nation they want to.

China has more than 3 times the population of the USA.

Their military is still all at home, where the USA is spread all over the globe.

Aircraft carriers in the Middle East won't help the USA if anyone attacks the "homeland".

You can bet that Russia and China already have nukes aimed at every carrier in their back yard.

They ain't stupid, and far from impotent.

Can't say the same thing for the USA.

USA is wide open for destruction.

But mostly internally.

We watch.
