US detains 'top al-Qaeda figure'
Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 01:09 PM by Newsjock
Source: BBC News

A top al-Qaeda figure suspected of having close ties to Osama Bin Laden has been taken to the US-run Guantanamo Bay detention camp, the Pentagon says.
The man, named as Muhammad Rahim by Reuters news agency, helped Bin Laden escape from his Tora Bora hideout in Afghanistan in 2001, US officials say.

He was transferred to the Pentagon from CIA custody, a Pentagon spokesman said.

It is not yet clear when or where the CIA captured him, or how long he has been in US custody.

1. I would say this timing is to distract us from the fact that the House
voted against telecom immunity. Anything else happened that Bush doesn't want the MSM to cover?

CIA: We Got Bin Laden Translator
Muhammad Rahim Was Secretly Held by the CIA Before Being
Transferred to Gitmo

By JONATHAN KARL
March 14, 2008

The CIA revealed today it had captured Osama bin Laden's
translator and secretly held him for at least six months
until this week when he was turned over to the U.S.
facility at Guantanamo Bay.

Muhammad Rahim was described as "a tough, seasoned
jihadist" who "sought chemicals for one attack on U.S.
forces in Afghanistan," according to a statement from
CIA director Gen. Michael Hayden.

Hayden said Rahim was "best known in counter-terror
circles as a personal facilitator and translator" for
bin Laden.

CIA officials said they could not discuss how, where or
precisely when Rahim was captured or where he was held
and interrogated by the CIA since then. A senior U.S.
official said he was captured in Pakistan by the
Pakistanis who turned him over to CIA custody.

8. They Always Pull This Nonsense.....
... when they feel the need to amp up the "fear". They probably have a stored up roster of "Nr. 2's", ready to feed the gullible masses when needed. What a crew.
