Source: AP

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - The government has ordered three U.S. citizens expelled from Chile for allegedly working illegally with a tourist visa.

The governor's office in the southern region of Aysen identified the Americans as Jason Barry Newmack, Lance Ron Glason and Brent Christopher Taylor. No hometowns were provided.

The three were illegally working as fishing guides in the region, according to a statement from the office of Gov. Silvia Moreno. They were ordered deported on Wednesday, governor's office spokesman Claudio Diaz told The Associated Press by telephone.

he Web site of 45 Degrees South Fly Fishing Expeditions _ a lodge and guide service based in Dillon, Montana, that offers Chile tours for $3,400 a person _ lists a Jason Newmack as its outfitter.

2. Chile's business community is not recruiting a cheap foreign labor force
as the American business community are doing.

Chile has enough of its own cheap labor force and their business elites already have plenty to choose from.

5. We got a pretty large, home grown, cheap labor force ourselves. It's called
unemployed, or underemployed, or laid off Americans.

7. Yeah, but our business elites like the cheaper foreign labor force
our cheap labor force believes it has some worker rights in the work place such as not being locked in at night, or the right of actually being paid on paydays.

8. carabineros
Chile, like almost every other nation on Earth has a National ID card. If the card is not produced or does not check out, the Carabineros will toss you out quickly.

12. Yep. They used to stop me regularly when I lived there
asking me for my carnet. I looked like a foreigner to them because of my American made clothes.

9. this is americans taking good jobs, not "cheap labor" jobs
these local guiding jobs can make a real difference to locals and while i do know american guides who work in other countries, they work with the gov'ts and with local guides on the ground to make sure that the local people benefit from having the eco-tourists

if you are going to be an outfitter or guide in a foreign land, you need to be willing to work with the proper authorities and prove that you are doing something of benefit to the local economy

one of the men is named as an outfitter, well, he should have known that you make sure to use local guides as part of your operation and keep local people earning and learning as a result of your tours

15. Just wait
our government is trying very hard to make us a cheap labor force.

Some day USA citizens will be fleeing across to border to get paying jobs

You do know the EU has now surpassed the US as the #1 economic power?

As our currency becomes cheaper and cheaper, we become worth less and less

10. The President of Chile was imprisoned and tortured, along with her mother, and her father, who died
in prison during that time, as a political enemy who didn't support the U.S.-supported, and Richard Nixon directed fascist coup. She doesn't have anything in common with the U.S. chosen, maintained and supported butcher/puppet dictator, Augusto Pinochet.
