Michigan Dems agree on June 3 do-over
Source: Associated Press via Yahoo! News

Michigan Democrats agreed Friday to push a do-over primary in early June to give them a say in the close presidential race between Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

Amid talks with the two campaigns, the four Michigan Democrats said in a statement they were "focusing on the possibility of a state-run primary in early June which would not use any state funding." Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, one of the Democratic participants, said a likely date is June 3.

1. and hillary has The GOV. ON HER SIDE!!! YEAH
To go forward, any plan would require the approval of the two campaigns, the Democratic National Committee, state party leaders and Gov. Jennifer Granholm, who is backing Clinton. Brewer said a revised delegate plan would also need to be approved by the state party's executive committee and the DNC's rules and bylaws committee.

I sure hope they don't limit it to only those who voted the first time.

5. ANOTHER Mis-leading Headine from the AP! It's should say "FOUR Michigan Dems agree...

...on a POSSIBLE DATE OF June 3 do-over"

"...four Michigan Democrats said in a statement they were "focusing on the possibility of a state-run primary in early June which would not use any state funding." Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, one of the Democratic participants, said a likely date is June 3."

Meanwhile Senator Obama said TODAY on in and NPR Interview, "My understanding is that the full primary is just not realistic...," <http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=88212282>

Btw, here's the interview with Senator Clinton from the day before, complete with worst possible photos of her, just like the other RW sites do it: [http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=88165077

8. Actually, I do not agree with this. They knew the rules going in
and chose to have their primary early anyway. They should be made to stick with the rules they agreed to.

13. Money where your mouth is time.
The Michigan Democratic Party is working in a positive way to clean up the delegate mess. I support this effort and I think Democrats nationwide, regardless of who they support in the Primary, should commend and support their efforts to make sure Michigan voters have their Primary delegates seated in good order. I just donated to the Michigan party to help defray the cost of this effort. If you support an MI primary, it’s time for you to put your money where your mouth is folks.

(Yes, as a Seattle area Democrat for Obama I will be giving-up a few lattes for this.)

15. I congratulate Michigan ...

Ultimately the threat of having no delegates at the convention probably forced them to go against Hillary. They have to protect the interest of the state by having their delegates recognized to lobby for Michigan's interests in the Democratic party.

23. they wanted to be "first"... now they will have a do over. Just what was accomplished?
the vote should reflect the original results otherwise....screams of recount will surface. I see this getting ugly in november.

27. That's precisely what I thought.
Gee, why didn't they just hold their first on Christmas Day and then go for August 15th for the do-over? Are they just trying to annoy the whole party or something?

19. NOW they're working to clean it up, but they could have avoided all of this
By playing by the rules in the first place. It's not as though this outcome was a surprise to the party leaders in MI and FL

If we pi** and moan about this for a few more months we can pi** and moan about how it cost us the presidency for at least four years.

14. If you think GOP spoilers in TX and MS were bad...
it's going to be a million times worse in Michigan. Now all the Republicans who voted in the GOP primary can vote again in this primary. And while some of them really do want change and are voting for the Democrat they'll vote for in the general election, most of them are just going to vote to try to screw with this. :(

26. Where is this "private" money coming from?
If it were up to me, the people that voted to hold their primaries early, against DNC rules should be the ones to pay for it.

My vote has not counted in the last two presidential election due to a very late primary date. I have no sympathy for the states that went against DNC rules that they already agreed to.

the Party - if it's going to continue to exist needs to be able to enforce discipline, if it can't why should it even exist?

30. system is broken, way too long - helps the repubs, and "momentum" isn't running in November
I think I'd prefer everyone campaign to say June 1st, then all states vote at once. This current schedule is a joke, only a few elections around the beginning of march, then nothing 'til PA in the last week of April. What's the point? Why are they campaigning against each other, why don't they campaign against McCain, and let us pick whichever does the best job, because as it stands now, he's going to be the next president and everyone knows it.

I don't think either of these two was the best choice, I don't think either of them is likely to win, in fact I think they're both rotten choices and that after 8 years of living hell waiting for this moment - I expected better. I really did. It may be that the democratic party is already dead, this election could be what makes that clear to everyone. I mean why is this election winding up so close to 50-50? It just doesn't make sense that it should divide so nearly perfectly. To me that says it's a coin toss.
