(Tom) Reynolds Out (R-NY 26)
Source: New York Daily News

Yet another retirement by a House Republican is imminent.

GOP sources confirm that Rep. Tom Reynolds, a Western NY Congressman since 1999 and ex-NRCC chairman, will announce around noon tomorrow in Buffalo that he will not seek re-election this fall. Reynolds spokesman LD Platt did not return an e-mail seeking comment.

Reynolds, who is also a former Assembly minority leader, has been pushing back against retirement rumors for some time now.

But the recent NRCC fraud scandal - some of which took place on his watch - has made his re-election effort that much more difficult in an already tough year (increasingly Democratic state, presidential election etc).

My wife and I are already providing financial support for 25 competitive House races nationwide. The Republicans seem to be trying to bankrupt us.....

1. Maybe *all* of the Republicans will retire in fear.
I don't care how they go. I don't care why they go. I don't care where they go. I just want them to go. Now. All of them!

2. Do you contribute to the 25 races individually, or give to the DCCC?
Or MoveOn or some other clearing house?

3. Individual races...
I cover all of the toss-up and most of the "leaning R" races as Cook and Rothenberg rate them, as well as a handful where I've had a chance to meet the candidate or know special details about the campaign.

Signed,

-A NY-26 voter

*He narrowly defeated Jack Davis in '06 51.98%/48.02% and he knows that he has a powerful democratic candidate (and veteran) John Powers to look forward to.

Might as well go out on the top (or attempt to avoid prosecution by removing onesself from the spotlight).

I'm a 26er too and I am doing the happy dance! Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, Reynolds.

14. Gerrymandered territory
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 04:27 PM by PATRICK
stretches in a broad swath across several districts. Reynolds was the kingpin lord who was entrusted with a big share of the GOP House warchest. After the page scandal he had to use it save his own sorry hide and those of his good neighbors. One went down. He and the others hung onto their GOP registration rich districts by a cheating hair, the usual insulting dirt campaigns and phone scams. With a strong Dem he will have an even harder time and who will give him the superfunds to bail him out this time? In my district the ugly wart Randy Kuhl at last cam out and said he would run. he hasn't been in long enough for the big money and the harm he wants to participate in.

Kuhl's remake strategy is to look friendlier and spin every issue to make charming, family friendly even while voting down such issues as children's health insurance. Eric Massa continues his now known strong presence and advocacy in the region challenging Kuhl with his own pre-campaign criticisms on the outrages Kuhl is merrily trying to spin. Kuhl is putting his headquarters outside his strong region into urban dem territory that he lost heavily. Massa is reaching out to areas he did not reach well enough last time, where more votes ARE available and better funding from the party this time. I think maybe Massa paused for about a week before latching onto the GOP jugular once more.

Check out www. massaforcongress.com. So do we have to take Reynold's dishonored seat? A nice sweep of this gerrymandered region would be a heavy blow to end the despicable practice itself. Argh. Just now received a call from the DLCC on gerrymandering and contributing(I am incredibly tapped out). Who's monitoring these boards?????
