Democrats demand 'straight talk' on Iraq
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - With U.S. troops entering their sixth year of combat in Iraq, New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez demanded Saturday that President Bush give an honest assessment of the costs of the conflict.

"The American people are still waiting to hear the straight talk we deserve," Menendez said in the Democrats' weekly radio address. "Instead of making more sweeping claims of victory, as he did this week, it's time for the president to face the reality of the situation we're in."

In a speech Wednesday at the Pentagon, Bush said, "The world is better, and the United States of America is safer" because of the war.

"No one would argue that this war has not come at a high cost in lives and treasure," Bush said. "But those costs are necessary when we consider the cost of a strategic victory for our enemies in Iraq."

1. That's a commercial by the DNC waiting to happen
As mcInsane parades around the country in his bus called the "Straight Talk Express" we should take that same slogan back to him with Iraq and the economy.

Let's have some straight talk John.

4,000 US Troops DEAD
Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi's DEAD
A country in tatters - Iraq
Thousands of US Troops wounded, some extreme
Thousands of US Troops mentally wounded, some extreme
The US debt is STAGGERING
The US deficit is STAGGERING
Jobs are being lost everyday, shipped oversees
The stock market is a roller coaster due to no confidence in the US economy
The US housing market is and has collapsed
People are buried in credit card debt
Global warming is alive and well
The world pretty much hates the US at this point
We ignore Darfur
Would a new President in his 70's be good for the US?
Why did you vote for torture John if you are against it?

On and on. Let's do some Straight Talk John.

4. I wish more had demanded the "straight talk" back in 2002.
Actually, there were voices of rational, "straight talk", but nobody in charge listened.
