Police: Teen pimp lures girls into illegal sex
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 01:35 AM by JI7
Source: Dallas Fort Worth channel 8

She's just 13 years old, a middle-schooler who is now facing charges involving a serious crime.

Police arrested the girl at a local nightclub where she was allegedly bringing other young girls to dance and to serve as prostitutes.

Investigators said the 13-year-old lured other girls to Club Metropolis, enticing them with the promise of money and even forcing some of them to dance and sell their bodies for sex.

Police estimate there are hundreds of teenage prostitutes on the streets of Dallas because there is a big demand. Recently, they found a 12-year-old girl dancing naked at a nightclub.

1. It intrigues me...
That this is going on in Dallas, after all the years of The Bible Belt telling us godless liberal devil worshiping baby killers in the Northeast about how utterly depraved we are and that swimming the eternal 1000 Mixed Relay in The Lake of Fire was our future.

Something like the above would not last longer than two femtoseconds around here. I guess all the social workers we have around here works to our advantage from time to time.

3. Don't mean to disagree, but
I don't think there is a city in the US larger than 100k that doesn't face this problem.

6. I've never heard of it
Not saying it doesn't happen, just that I haven't heard of it, and I've lived in some decent sized places, such as:

Des Moines (30 years, population > 500K)
Chicago (7 years, population > 9million)
Madison (1 year, population >500K)

Interestingly, in 1990 and 1991 I worked at a convenience store in the bars-on-the-windows neighborhood of Des Moines. Among my customers were winos, junkies, hookers, pimps, dealers, hustlers, and members of 3 different gangs. But most were just poor people who couldn't afford to live in a better neighborhood. Anyway, I ended up getting along with everybody, so I pretty much knew the score all the time. I knew who the working girls were, and I knew who they were working for.

And the only time I ever saw teenage prostitution was a 14 year-old runaway. She befriended another girl who was always looking for an easy way to make some money, so she decided she'd try to pimp this girl out. It lasted one night and zero tricks before the girl went home. So technically, that was unsuccessful teenage prostitution.

Granted, that was almost 20 years ago (damn I feel old), so maybe things are different now. But I haven't heard of it on the news either, so I'm gonna say I don't think it happens a lot, at least not in the midwest.

4. I-35 corridor
wasn't it supposed to be "God's Highway" or something.

I guess it's really just the zipper on the short shorts that the bible belt is holding up over America's naughty bits.

9. Not that this has anything to do with the above article but
Dallas is increasingly growing blue. Democrats did incredibly well in Dallas County winning 41 out of 41 contested GOP judgeships as well as the county judge seat and the district attorney.

In my neighborhood which sits right in the middle of Dallas, Highland Park, there is about a 50/50 split of Democrats and Republicans after the 2006 elections. This is a major improvement given the wealth of this town and its history of strongly supporting Republican candidates.

However, Plano, a north Dallas suburb, is about 75% Republican.

I agree with the below poster, I think that this behavior is more prevalent.

11. Is this because of the redistricting that went on
a couple years back? Or is my memory off?

17. Yes. Republicans gerrymandered that district forcing all the Dems into a few districts. (nt)

5. Bible belt..sure...
If I learned everything in the south, it's that the most righteous of them are the dodgiest behind closed doors. Wouldn't know if they get it on in the Vatican, but any other place that I've seen call itself "holy" was twisted under the surface.

7. a girl at my high school was involved in this
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 04:13 AM by policypunk
She was paid $20 a head by a gang to lure girls to parties where they were given all the drugs and alcohol they could take and then turned loose on waiting men.

The police didn't accept the notion that this girl was anything more than some bored mallrat who hanged around a gang for thrills. She was arrested for something trivial and spent a few weeks out of her summer in jail, getting to go home to her parents house every night. I only believe one man was arrested, having given the girl he raped his business card.

Lots of wives left at home in the Rust Belt, trying to

14. Missed the money quote:
"One of the remarkable things we learned through all of this is there's a tremendous amount of money in all this, so a huge demand for young girls in prostitution world," Lt. Williams said.

Well, thank you for that brilliant insight. Who knew there was lots of money to be made in prostitution. Better not let that get out, since it could lead to a whole illicit trade that could permeate the entire world.

If this is the cream of the law enforcement crop, then it's a wonder there isn't a toddler prostitution ring.

16. When I worked with street kids, I learned that there's a lot of demand for
early teen prostitutes, because the johns believe that they're less likely to have STDs (which is definitely not true), and because some of the johns feel threatened by grown women and want someone they see as "innocent" and "docile."

There was a case in which a 14-year-old prostitute was rooming with two 16-year-olds who were working minimum wage trying to get off the streets. The 14-year-old paid the rent and then some, because she could earn a lot more streetwalking than the older girls could together working straight jobs.

Most of the girls who worked the streets were runaways from abusive homes. The merely rebellious kids (the ones who walked out after a dispute with their parents about curfews and the like) rarely lasted long on the streets, once they learned through experience that there are definite advantages to having a warm bed and regular meals.
