Prudhomme grazed by falling bullet at golf tournament
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 08:03 PM by flamingyouth

Paul Prudhomme has just been shot in New Orleans

A falling bullet hit chef Paul Prudhomme as he was cooking on a practice tee Tuesday at the Zurich Classic at the TPC Louisiana.

JPSO said he was hit by a .22-caliber bullet that they said could have come from as far away as a mile and a half. They said chances of being hit are one in 500 million.

JPSO is not investigating this as a criminal case and said the tournament is not in any danger.

Prudhomme continued cooking.

He's such a sweet man, and his recipes are soooooo good. A lot of work to make, but yummy.

21. Yes, indeed.
"A lot of work to make, but yummy."

I have all his cookbooks. His Poorman's Jambalaya and Cheesy Jalapeno Skillet Cornbread are my faves. I've been meaning to make his curry from Louisiana Kitchen again soon, too.

Glad he's OK.

But..."not being investigated as a crime?" Isn't firing a weapon into the air a crime in most places in the US? Don't people watch Mythbusters? That's precisely when a falling bullet CAN kill, when it travels some distance & maintains terminal velocity.

10. Update
He was doing a cooking demonstration when he was hit by a falling bullet.
The bullet may have come from as much as a mile away.

His life is not in danger - in fact he continued with his cooking demonstration.

28. He hasn't been in the best of health for years.
I lived in NOLA over 15 years ago and used to see him in sitting in his electric cart out in back of his restaurant. He was vastly overweight and had health problems back then, and has had surgery since.

29. A pro woman golfer was almost killed by a stray bullet that hit her in the neck at Avalon in Warren,
Ohio. It hit her in the neck when she was at the mall parking lot. The investigators traced it to some yayhoo who was shooting his pistol in his backyard a few blocks away. The projectile richoted and flew off with plenty of energy.

He went before the judge and he went to jail.

Gun owner of the year. Where's Mike Royko when you need him?

40. His "conversations" with Slats Grobnick were always a hoot...
"Where's Mike Royko when you need him?"

As an aside, reading his editorials in the mid to late eighties was my jump start into political awareness.

His "conversations" with Slats Grobnick were always a hoot wrapped around a good point.

41. Slats lives on in a compilation of Mike Royko's columns
I found it by chance in the library. His take on Cabrini Green was that the city put all the poor black people into the smallest space possible so that they did not take up the city's valuable real estate. Cutting.

Chances of being hit may be one in 500 million, but Prudhomme's chances have to be several hundred percent greater than the average person because of his considerably larger horizontal cross-section.

Edit: I guess he's trimmed down somewhat lately, so the fat-joke is on me.
